Making a contender

Created by: KingLundqvist30
Team: 2021-22 New York Rangers
Initial Creation Date: Nov. 3, 2020
Published: Nov. 3, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
First Line - With his second year in the league, Lafreniere can slot into that first line LW spot and feed passes to Panarin and Zibanejad. Panarin slides over to RW to accommodate for the log jam at LW.

Second Line - Buch has shown good chemistry with Chytil ( in the few games they played together) and I feel that having Kakko on that line could generate some good offensive chances. Overall a really solid second line.

Third line - Kreider is here long term, and that’s ok. Sticking him with Kravtsov and a rookie in Morgan Barron would make this a really good third line. IMO Barron is ready for NHL Ice next season and would slot well as a Howden replacement. Reminds me of Derek Stepan.

Fourth Line - The grind line. Lemieux brings grit and physicality, Paquette is a good face off man and when in the corner usually comes up with the puck, and Gauthier is Kreider 2.0 with his speed and net-front presence (not to mention the kid is 6’4).

Pairing 1 - Lindgren and Fox is pretty much Girardi and McDonagh (Fox is more offensively gifted than Mac was). Lindgren blocks a whole lot of shots, as well as being a solid presence in the D zone. Fox all around makes great plays and can turn the Jets on when need-be.

Pairing 2 - Try DeAngelo and Trouba and hope it sticks. DeAngelo is a PP Quarterback who has a high hockey IQ. Pairing him with a guy like Trouba could work out. Trouba, although not putting up as many points as he did in WPG, was ok on defense, with a new defensive coach I feel he can get back into his old ways.

Pairing 3 - By 21-22 Miller will already have half a year - a year of NHL experience and can help Lundkvist adjust to the NA ice.

Goaltending - Shesterkin gets a nice contract after a (hopefully) great performance in 20-21. We keep the two Russians together in the net.

Overall, I feel that this roster could grow together, and contend. Let me know down below in the comments what you all think! Thanks!

Panarin won't play RW, Buch can't play LW, rest is fine.

This was more of a hypothetical roster. Just liked the look of it.

Are capfriendly mistaken for listing him RW, LW?

Neat to see it all articulately mapped out like this

They're contenders this year though. They had the same points % as Toronto last season. They're adding Laffy & Shesty on ELCs with youngsters maturing.

I have them projected in the top 5-10 next season

Why are you paying everyone so much? How has Chytil earned that much? Igor hasn't played a complete season yet. One season and then 6 sheets? He's an RFA. Murray won 2 cups and got 3.750 in his first deal in a better cap environment. If we're paying 6 mil to someone who hasn't proven anything, we're going to be rebuilding again soon. Our C depth is awful and the LHD is still barely NHL caliber.

I think Buch is probably gone to cut costs or to bring in an NHL LHD.

He played LW for some time with Mika two years ago or so, he wasn't really good, I believe he said he can't play it anymore.
