Anderson and Hyman Extension

Description
My projection for 2021-

At this point in time I am projecting that Anderson and Hyman are resigned. Obviously 🙄 Dubas will make that decision after this 2020-21 season, but if he decides to extend both players, what will their contracts look like? And how will those contracts impact the rest of the roster?

I would expose Muzzin in the expansion draft and hope Seattle takes on his contract without having to add picks or prospects

Anderson comparable contracts- Pekka Rinne, Ben Bishop

Hyman comparable- Tom Wilson, Chris Kreider

Resign Barabanov, Dermott and promote Hallander, Anderson, Sandin and Lily

    Overpay on Hyman -- I think $4.5m x 5 is reasonable for him, but max I'd go is $5m x 5 years.

Andersen is probably an overpay too, especially after what Lehner just signed.

I'm pretty sure it'll be a flat cap 2021-22 as well, so they're both probably going to get less than what they want just for that reason, but these are both probably overpays regardless.

    I can see:
Hyman sign for 4 years 3.9mil
Not resigning Andersen (I can see them signing an player outside the NHL)
    No way they expose Muzzin

Interesting, I can see the Leafs not exposing Muzzin and not resigning Anderson for sure. I definitely put both contracts at a higher rate as a basic projection.

How on earth is that Hymans contract? He is an elite player who brings a lot of intangibles to the lineup.

The market for goalies has been reset. Andersen will be lucky to get $5M again on a multi year deal.

I'd give Hyman some extra term to keep the AAV down. I could see $4M x 6 years getting it done.

Also, why in world would they let Muzzin go to Seattle? Getting Brodie doesn't make Muzzin expendable.

James Mirtle of The Athletic breaks it down.

Mirtle believes the best comparable is Joonas Donskoi of the Colorado Avalanche who signed a four year deal with an $3.9million AAV last year. Hyman has gone on record saying that he wants to stay meaning he is willing to stay for a fair contract. That's why

Whoa that's alot each year for someone who would be a more solid version of Jimmy Vesey if he wasn't clinging onto Toronto's big 4 like a barnacle

Hyman has played *every single one of his 302 games* beside one of Matthews, JT, Marner, Nylander and it's almost always 2/4 at once, wowzers

To much as well. Hyman rn had similar numbers to when Gallagher signed 3.75 for 6 years back in the day. Hyman will probs get an extension at that range. He said he wants to stay and really isnt in it for the money so I see him taking a team friendly deal

Way to much for both guys

Freddie I see being 6mill for 3 years as Markstrom pretty much killed the chance to get more. If freddie wants more Dubas can say nah and go for Binnington or sign Raanta or Dreiger.

Hyman wont be getting that much lul. Hyman rn is producing at a similar pace to Gallagher when he signed 3.75 for 6 years and thats probs what Hyman is making

Sure, but you've gotta look at the salary cap increase and inflation as well.

When Gallagher signed that deal, the salary cap was $71.4m. His cap hit of $3.75m would equate to about 5.2% of the cap

If Hyman signed for $4.5 with a salary cap of $81.5m, that would == about 5.5% of the cap.

That is basically equal, so I think $4.5 is reasonable for Hyman, and your Gallagher argument actually helps to make that case.
