He's an NHL level Dman in my opinion, but I have a feeling this will be his last contract with Ottawa. There's just no room, and with the additions of Zub, Gudbranson and J.Brown I can't see a path for him to crack the NHL unfortunately.

In fairness to him, that really had nothing to do with his play. He missed a good chunk of the season with injury, and Ottawa made a pretty conscious decision not to have a spot open for guys like Jaros or Lajoie last season. They clearly wanted more of a Vet blueline, especially on the right side.

does he have NHL experience: yes, does he have a high cap hit: no. Good signing since he'll compete for a roster spot and it really doesn't matter if he flops since it's one year at a low cap hit

I don't know Zub and he should get a chance but Jaros should get an opportunity over Gudbranson and Brown.

I agree, but that's extremely unlikely to happen at this point. I would expect him to play in Belleville this year, and either get traded at some point or he will go play in Europe. I'd be really surprised if he's an Ottawa Senator beyond this season.

Probably an AHLer as our 9th or 10th best D, despite probably being good enough to be a #6/#7 guy. Cheap option who can fill in if injuries hit, or post-deadline (Gudbranson and Reilly are both likely to get dealt). Could also be trade bait himself, I’d hate to see him involved in a minor league swap though, as I think he has NHL capability. Good signing regardless, might as well keep him locked up
while we can, that’s just good asset management.

At this point in Ottawa, hes an injury call-up, but why Ottawa went out and gave up assets for Gudbrandson and Brown (and EG contract is punitive to move to put it mildly), when they had Jaros,Zub,Brannstrom etc in the pipeline, not to mention lots of better options than EG for much less money as UFA's is beyond me.
