I don't hate it if Laine actually wants to leave.

The retention on JVR is required to make him a palatable substitute for Konecny.

Adding Sanheim means for the expansion draft we'd have to protect 4D + Scheif, Ehlers, Connor and Wheeler. Exposing JVR, Copp, Rolsovic, etc.
It also means that we suddenly have a glut of LHD with JMO, Sanheim, Samberg and Heinola so someone is going to have to move to the right side but I think that Sanheim has played RD if I'm not mistaken so maybe that's an option.

Obviously the line combos need some adjusting but that isn't really the point of this.

If Laine wanted out and we can't find a 1 for 1 type trade, I could live with this as a return. Not ideal but I think the value is there and it addresses org needs.

I would hope Chevy would turn this down since no compensation is being offered for taking on JVR"a contract.

Maybe two years from now if nothing better is available, but I doubt Chevy pulls the trigger on this one now.

JVR at $4.5 million is a great contract for a guy putting up between 20-30 goals... Honestly I think that is an overpayment for Laine with that much being eaten by the Flyers.

Hard NO from Philly

JVR's production has been dropping like a stone the past few years and there is no reason the Jets need to take back a player they don't want or need when they are giving up Laine.

As I said, maybe two years from now if this is the best offer out there, but right now there isn't enough there to make Chevy do it.

Since 2016 season, 62 points in 82, 54 in 81, 48 in 66, 40 in 66.... I think any team would love to have a player at $4.5 million putting up those numbers. We all know what JVR is at this point, a streaky player who can put up points in bunches. He certainly isn't worth $7 million, but he's also worth more than $4.5. Laine is a true talent and a great young goal scorer but between the contract negotiation at end of year and his defensive liabilities I don't think I would do this trade as the Flyers GM.
