I don't think so. Malkin has a few good years left in him but Kaapo Kakko is 19. Just a bad deal.

Why would we trade a guy who can potentially be a superstar for 15+ years on our team for a guy who (while still good) only has around 3-5 years left?

you also inexplicably get a 1st.

The last #2 overall pick to have fewer points than Kakko in his draft year was Sam Reinhart who only played 9 games in 2014 when buffalo was trying to lose every game.

You have no idea if kakko will even be good. 23 points for #2 overall pick is underwhelming. You also somehow get a first.

Malkin just put up 1.35 ppg this year, 1.06 last year, 1.26 the year before.

Eh. Still a bad move. I'd compare it to BUF trading Eichel for Stamkos around the draft like those rumors back then we're circulating.

Malkin's production will 100% go down as Kakko will hopefully go up. We aren't Stanley Cup Contenders. No point to do this. I wouldn't consider trading Kakko or Lafreniere unless a Young center was available. Barkov, Scheifele, Eichel, etc.

I think trading for Malkin and having top 6 centers of Malkin and Zibanejad makes you contenders immediately, considering the talent on the wings especially.

No I mean long term reward. Malkin is entering his 30s as Kakko is his 20s. The length of return to bear fruit on Malkin is short. To be quite frank, it's stupid.

Have you seen the left side defense? It's worse than ECHL teams. They likely are a first round boot with Malkin.
