Matthews Trade packages

Created by: Mwasylko34
Team: 2020-21 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Nov. 5, 2020
Published: Nov. 5, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
I know the values are going to be off. Some teams had players such as Eichel and Kane who maybe would consider 1 for 1 while others do not have a high caliber player hence the use of multiple draft picks and high end players still.

Is Matthews worth more than pasta? Contracts matter.

Yes, to be honest that trade looks gross to me. I don’t put pasta anywhere near matthews level, not that I can argue it with the season he had last year.

The problem with doing these kinds of posts are that a lot of the trades are not equal. So O'Reilly + 1st == Zegras + Drysdale + Lindholm + 1st + 1st + 2nd + 2nd? You could do this kind comparison to quite a few of these deals.

This is well done and I'd like to see what the people laughing here and being derisive would suggest

Not an easy excercise either, using all 30 teams etc. Can be hard to determine value for special players

I hate to drag Hyenas into this but so many people on this forum are like them, especially the lion king ones

Overpaying for 'special' players is quite common

Agreed. Imagine giving up your best dman, your top 2 prospects, 2 first round picks (That would inevitably be top 5-10 picks because of the bigger holes that this created) and 2 second round picks for a player that, while quite talented/great, doesn't even really fix your teams biggest need.

The Caps one is almost as funny when you compare it to the Ducks one.

Well a top line center to replace matthews yes plus the 1st because O'Reilly is a lot older and does not produce offensively as much
And i said the values are going to be off. Anaheim trade is prospects who may not pan out at all hence the additional picks. Id take out one first and one second to even it out then

There's "overpaying" and then there's "Here's a package that is equivalent to 4 x 1st round lotto picks, 2 high 2nds, and heck, might as well throw in the teams best dman while we're at it! (Who is probably worth 2 x 1st)"

I have been away from the website for months with the occasional check in, but this deserves a comment

THE HELL?
Maybe think before making that bruins trade.

Thats like saying Debrusk for Marner and 2 2nd rounders (except for that its honeslty more realistic because of Marners gigantic cap hit)

And the year before that. I guess would you rather Pastrnak with a 6 million dollar center, or Matthews with a 1 million dollar winger?

Rather have a team of above average and good players rather than a singular superstar who doesn’t have a team around him.

And the year before that. I guess would you rather Pastrnak with a 6 million dollar center, or Matthews with a 1 million dollar winger?

Matthews, every time. Last year was to me anyway pastas only 50 goal season. When I look at what both players do on the ice and the skill level I take Matthews.

Ummm. Cool? I never said Pastrnak was better than Matthews.

Contracts matter. Pastrnaks is one of the best in the league. Matthews is meh.

For sure Pasta’s contract is awesome. Does that mean I would rather have pasta over Matthews? No, that is my point. Just my opinion though.
