Ducks get a good package for their goalie. They roll with two vets. Isn’t pretty, but it will work for now until Dostal is ready

Trades
ANA
  1. Bouchard, Evan
  2. Puljujärvi, Jesse
  3. Smith, Mike
  4. 2022 1st round pick (EDM)
Additional Details:
Take the pick for the deeper draft.
Let me know how the value looks. I may be off, just think this is what it would cost for one of the best goalies in the league. Smith probably wont waive but it’s whatever. Just for roster spots.

Imo if a trade were to happen, I think Koskinen would be coming back for cap

Although I think Gibson is a top 10 goalie in the NHL, I wouldn't do this, I'd rather go for someone like Freddy Andersen next year in FA. No reason to trade prospects especially when the team isn't a cup contender yet.

I wanted Koskinen apart of it, just didn’t think Edmonton fans would have liked it.

Oilers respectfully decline. I really like what Gibson brings, but to lose essentially 3 1st rounders is a tad high. Still have high hopes for JP and even more for EB. We'll look for a goalie in FA or work the phones harder with ARI.

That's a tough trade. JP still had elite potential. Bouchard is almost 100% going to be a solid top 4 maybe too 3 if he can gain a step. The first is what it is. Could care less what goalie goes back, not like they will play much. But Gibson is elite and he could be the difference maker in consecutive deep play off runs. Loss of both JP and Bouch if they do live up to their potential hurts but the team gets better right now. Just potential for major loss in a season or two.

What is this. Gibson is trash. If Ducks want Bouchard and Puljujarvi then they need to give us Gibson and their two first round picks and retain Gibson salary. In your trade the Ducks are fleecing the Oilers. Chiarelli isn't the GM anymore, remember?

I dont understand why goalies are valued so highly. They are the most inconsistent position, all you need to win is a goalie that gets hot at the right time. Gibson has a good track record but was one of the worst goalies in the league last season, even after adjusting for team and competition

Look at the recent cup winners - aside from Vasi they are all goalies who are inconsistent but just go on a hot streak at the right time

Last 5 years of cup winners:
Vasi - outlier - hes one of the best goalies in the league
Binnington - came out of nowhere and went on a hot streak, now hes underperforming
Holtby - used to be considered pretty good, but has been below average over the past 3 regular seasons. Just went on a hot streak in the playoffs
Murray x 2 - epitome of inconsistency, sv% over the past 5 seasons are: .930, .923, .907, .919, and .899. Playoff numbers are: .923, .937, .908, .906, .914. Two hot streaks got him 2 cups

Anderson has a career .916 in the playoffs, which is only so low because it's dragged down by one outlier year when the Leafs defense rightfully got boned by Boston in a series they only took to seven games because Freddy posted sv% above .950 in games 1 and 6.

He also has been one of the most consistently good goalies in the regular season, posting a .917 or above in all but two of the seasons he's been in the league, and has only been below league average once in his career- last season.

I really don't understand where the narrative of "Freddy has not done enough for the leafs" is coming from. I would argue he's the ONLY thing that's kept the Leafs cup contenders the last five years. The Leafs have had a bottom three defense in the league for years now and Freddy has been above average in all but one of those years. What more can you ask for? If he's bad next year too then sure move on, but it would seem that's unlikely, especially given how much Toronto's defense has improved in the last two offseasons.

Seems like a bit of an overpay to me. It would be more realistic for the Oilers if only 2 of Puljujarvi, Bouchard, and a 1st were moved. Although, Gibson is an elite goalie and I don’t think Anaheim would move him without an overpay.

I was just joking lol. I’ve made the exact same argument many times.

I wasn’t blaming Freddy. I was more making fun of the Leafs in general.

You could also give Vasilevskiy the handicap of having literally the best team in the league playing in front of him his entire career.

Don't pay for saves is the mantra to live by. Don't pay in money or term. You never know when your starter is going to turn into a pumpkin and you don't want to be paying him seven million bucks or have five years left on his contract when he does.
