That’s going to be a no. Hronek is our only top 4D, Zadina is a former 6OV, and a future top 5 pick for a guy that doesn’t push us into the playoffs or fit our timeline.

Red Wings are rebuilding. Not running the franchise into the ground. Ken Holland already did that.

Get real Detroit easily passes, Hronek and Zadina and our 2021 1st round pick is off the table Stamkos wont return that much and he sure as hell isn't waiving his NMC for Detroit.

Holland did a lot for them, it was bound to go off the rails after all that success

Holland's last decade in Detroit was a complete and total failure. Horrible drafting, bad free agent signings and no impactful trades. Re-signing his own average and crappy players to Long term contract extensions with no trade and no move clauses they didn't deserve. He basically mailed it in after Lidstrom retired. Now Yzerman is left cleaning up his mess which will take years to accomplish.

IMO, Buffalo should go after Stamkos NEXT year if/when Hall moves on.

Fits into our timeline better.

Am I stupid to think it should only cost one of those pieces? Stamkos is great but he can't stay healthy and Tampa's in a cap crunch with no leverage. Regardless, Detroit wouldn't trade for him anyway since he doesn't fit into our timeline so we shouldn't give up any of those pieces.

Wings MIGHT take Stamkos in a trade....but won't send any assets to Tampa. Just does Tampa a cap favour. But really can't see Captain of the Stanley Cup winners, waiving his NMC.

No you’re not crazy at all. You’re right about Stamkos having so much question marks and Tampa being in cap hell. The max you should offer is Cholowski + Rasmussen and 2 2nd rounders

I don't understand why it's so difficult for folks to see that the Red Wings are not to take on older veteran players - even as good as a healthy Stamkos is - with big contracts, while giving up assets. Stevie is playing the long game by hoarding young players and draft picks, period. He's filling in holes with solid veterans on short, cheap contracts to bridge the gap until the kids are ready. Two off-seasons from now the Wings will be looking at a young core of Larkin, Mantha, Bertuzzi, Zadina, Raymond, Veleno, Seider, Berggren, Hronek, and whichever player they get in next year's 1st round. That's not even taking into consideration other solid prospects that may turn out to be contributors. They will have that core and over $40 million dollars in cap space. Some they might use next off-season to take a run at a big time free agent (maybe Dougie Hamilton), but even then they'll have over $30 in cap room heading into 2022-23. They aren't going to screw up that equation so they can win a handful more games this season and next by adding aging, big money stars. It makes no sense.

If TB wants to give him away then fine but Detroit shouldn’t be trading assets to get a few more wins and still miss the playoffs.

Hirose could potentially develop into a third liner buts he’s got to put in the work.

Stamkos and is 30yrs with 4yrs left on his contact at $8.5M per. I doubt he waives for Detroit and I don't see Detroit trading for him and thats at any reasonable price. What Detroit would be willing to give up in a trade won't come to his actual value. Look at Detroit's page on CapFriendly, they don't have enough pieces in place to let trade 4 very good pieces for a superstar on the wrong side of 30. Hronek is untouchable. I wouldn't say Zadina is untouchable but it would take some thing big to pry him out of Detroit. I think the Wings will finish in the bottom 3 this season so that would guarantee a top 5 pick. I don't see any team giving up that much for Stamkos. Hirose played very well with AA at the end of the 2018-19 season but not much after that

I agree. Stamkos fits in to Buffalo's timeline a lot better than Detroit's.

I can understand why some might not want to pay that price for stamkos but those who say he doesn’t fit rebuild as the reason should absolutely never complain about getting robbed in lottery that mindset caused the league to introduce lottery system. Always be looking to improve not just accept being garbage

This coming from an Oilers fan? The league introduced the lottery because Pitt’s blatant tank of sending quality players down or traded to lose. In this cap world you need a couple superstars to build the team around for success and having those high picks gives you the best probability of obtaining them. Just look at LAK, CHI, PIT, etc. that’ve won this decade and see what they have in common.
