I suspect we see Backlund or Bennett exposed up front and probably Tanev as a defenseman due to the optics of exposing Gio, as if he is taken it is 3 years of Cap relief. Valimaki has also been playing RD over in Finalnd, so if he is played as RD, a great season by him could see him pass Tanev on the depth chart too, and potentially opens up a spot for Mackey on the 3rd pair.

Why are u asking if they should protect Gio or Tanev? Both will be exposed since you already have 3 protected

As an oiler fan I’d say should expose tkachuk or Jonny but something tells me that isn’t going to happen. In seriousness tho it’s still too early to decide these things plenty can and likely will change between now and then. Never know might end up buying out lucic just to save a protection slot

Because hes not going to be selected and that was very likely the reason Treliving rescted to keep his NMC in the Neal trade. He has literally no reason not to waive if hes happy with the team and management
