Contract year gap / age gap make it very lopsided

Absolutely brilliant for NYR to suggest that but it might honestly fray the relationship with JR to a point

It's pretty wild too that Pettersson usually scores only 10 fewer points than Strome in a full season and is limited offensively I mean that alone is just... gosh

Rangers accept 100%

Pens have to fix their defense so I doubt they do this.

If the pens had a decent defensive core I'd say this is quite a fair deal. Pettersson is a strong two way d who's only gonna get better while Strome is an offensive monster but a liability defensively but his offense makes up for it. I like this. Noice job

This all depends on how much the pens think marino can carry matheson

I guarantee you Marino and a declining Letang cannot carry the defensive core

This is nowhere near a fair deal for the pens regardless of how good the rest of their defense is lol. Strome is an overpaid 3rd line center who got overpaid by benefiting being on a line with Panarin. MP is a solid top 4 D on a great contract that was extremely strong on what was a weak penguins D.

Dumo and a still serviceable* letang and marino and matheson (assuming a rebound) is solid tbf

No...he ways pretty solid on a god awful Edmonton team before he arrived in NYR. He isn't overpaid. Yes Panarin boosted his point production but advanced stats are usually based on an individual player maybe with the exclusion of Corsi for. It's pretty fair in my opinion

Yeah but in the playoffs it wasn't solid enough to win a series against the Habs of all teams lmfao. Especially without Hornquvist now, the pens need to manage their assets better all around. Not the best defensively and not the best offensively. Even tho Crosby and Malkin are extremely dominant, it can only take em so far just like with McDavid and Draistaitl

Strome was a typical 28-35 point guy in Edmonton and New York Isles. That’s exactly what McCann is. Strome is closer to UFA and making almost 1.6 million more than McCann. There is a pens fan on here that constantly said Mitch Marner with retention for Jack Johnson was fair too. Doesn’t mean it is lol.

Jake had just come back from a serious shoulder injury, and the main pair that got exposed for 95% of goals were the Schultz/JJ pair. Neither player is here anymore.

MP is a good d but, 5x4.025m does not fit long term, we'd lose Lindgren to Seattle, we'd lose Bread's near ppg c who only makes 2x4.5m and Brass is certainly not be that stop gap

MP is the Pens' 3rd best defensive d-man after Marino and Dumoulin, they shouldn't move him

I would say Pens think hard about it. Strome just got overpaid IMO though. We need 3rd line center help and have P-O-Joseph ready to come in and play a LHD spot. Just not sure what Matheson/Marino, P-O-Joseph/Ceci pairing would be like. Petersson/Marino is a such a solid 2nd paring. If Strome was only making 2.5-3M. I think the pens do it. At 4.5M, I think they pass!!

The Pens take F.Chytil for Pettersson though.

I don’t think. I think P-O-Joseph is up next if a full-time spot opens up.

Pens new assistant coach was P-O-Joseph coach last year and loved him, played him in every situation, PP and PK, played him over 25 minutes a game and said he’s was NHL ready last year and could have played NHL minutes last year. He got hired as Pens assistant coach this year.

And P-O-Joseph has gained 20 pounds of muscle since he’s been with the Pens. Gone from 6’3 168 pounds to 6’3 185 pounds, solid. The organization loves him too. He’s ready!!

https://lastwordonsports.com/hockey/2019/08/28/pittsburgh-penguins-prospects-2/

Excellent pivots and edgework allow him to cover 360 degrees of ice. He keeps himself in front of attackers and maintains good gap control with his smooth skating and his lateral agility. Joseph can also use his agility to walk the line in the offensive zone and to open up shooting and passing lanes. Joseph has bulked up since his draft year, adding over 20 pounds in the last two years. He is strong on the puck and wins more battles in the corners and in front of the net as a result. There is probably a bit more room to add muscle to his lanky frame. How much is necessary will be seen as he tests himself against professional opponents again this year.

https://www.nhl.com/player/pierre-olivier-joseph-8480058[/quote]

“He could have played games this year in certain situations,” he said. “No doubt, he could play games next year“

https://pittsburghhockeynow.com/exclusive-coach-raves-about-joseph-he-could-play-in-nhl-next-year-pittsburgh-penguins/

This article also says he’s gained weight. And keeps gaining and growing. Mentally too.

“At 6-foot-2, 162 pounds, Joseph was slight, but he is incredibly fast and has good vision. Joseph gained weight, mostly muscle for his first pro season, and kept growing, mentally, too”.

Joseph “WAS” slight.
