Marner out - I dont like it BUT

Created by: jchafe77
Team: 2020-21 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Nov. 7, 2020
Published: Nov. 7, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
I am a big Marner fan, and would hate to see him be shipped out of Toronto. It seems as though a lot of people are riding the Nylander train and would prefer Marner out. For me, I would only like a Marner trade IF the return was someone just as elite, as shown below, and at a cheaper price.
Once the trade happens here (Marner for Ekblad), the leafs should then focus on adding depth to their top 9, and id like to see Willie's brother Alex come over for a cool sibling duo, and making create some chemistry, especially with high potential prospects like Robertson, Abruzzese, Amirov and Korshkov coming up through the system, they can round out the forward lines in years to come... and we already got an idea of what Sandin and Liljegren can bring to the table.
If you guys have any idea's, feel free to share.

NOTE* - Boyd is scratched, but lets assume that he serves as relief to Thornton and Spezza, allowing the older players to have more rest and to stay healthy. If Boyd gets injured, Joey Anderson gets the call

Agree with you that I wouldn't want to trade Marner....but gain 3.1m in cap space might be worth it for the trade proposed, though not sure if Florida would be willing.

But I really dislike the other trade. Trading cost efficient NHL Dmen, Dermot and Holl seems to be counter productive when you just traded so much to get one (Ekblad)

FLA declines. Ekblad is a RD and on a nice deal compared to Marner so they would not give up a 1st

Maybe, ever so slightly. But I would rather the leaf's have flexibility with money then be in a crunch like they are now, and their prospect pool is still very good, and can be reliable maybe in a couple years. I'm sure in a couple years, Robertson and Amirov will more then exceed the void of Marner being gone

not ever so slightly. way worse. the reason for all the ekblad trades were because the leafs didn't have a 1RD, which they do now have with Brodie. Robertson and Amirov won't exceed the void of a player with a 105 pt ceiling.

Amirov is compared to Kucherov and Panarin. I have faith. Again, this is just a idea. I dont think its happening, but yall must think that every trade on this site will all come true eh? LOL

I think if Florida was inclined to spend money, they would’ve just kept Hoffman and/or Dadonov.

Doubt any team that's possibly near the bottom is giving up that 2022 pick, but good try.

If you want to trade Marner, you can. However, you would need to replace his playmaking skills. As a top 5 winger in the NHL, there are only a few who can, but those teams are not giving them up. You are throwing away a 23 year old who hasn't even hit his prime yet as if they are a depth piece. Trading Marner would make this team worse

Chicago rejects, Nylander was a 30 point rookie who played 4th line minutes and the hawks aren't trading him for that package and especially adding a pick.

This makes the Leafs worse, but the Panthers aren’t trading their potential Shane Wright lottery pick.

It's a real steep learning curve to be an assist guy.....which 40+ goal scorer to do I pass to....Matthews or JT.......it's soooooooooooo confusing. But look at my point I'm a 90 pt player now.
