The Blues trade is worse, a good centre for two years Bozak, Brown and a 10th overall pick for Parayko? Why don't the Leafs hold onto their assets and with their cap space upcoming in the next two years and sign (maybe UFASs) without giving up assets.
You can not be serious. STL would not consider this. Parayko is exactly what we need!
Whether Parayko is what we need or not, it is an overpayment. The Leafs are still young and they should be looking for defenseman, but frankly they sholdn't be moving 1sts or any of our core prospects/Rielly. After that they should try ot be offering where we have excess to shore up areas of weakness.
I love Brown, but he is the kind of guy who we should be moving, along with Leipsic who is tearing up the AHL, or Bracco who is tearing up the OHL, or even Kapanen in the right position. We have realistically about 8 guys who are fighting to be 2nd or 3rd line wingers, there are only 4 spots and probably one will be taken by a veteran. We should use that to our advantage.[/quote]
I'll agree that the have an "abundance" of prospects, but their trade value is low when trading for NHL players. Leipsic is "tearing up the AHL" but he is fourth year pro. History says there are billions of AHL stars who never make it to the NHL as even regulars. If Leipsic is so good, don't you think he would be playing for the Leafs? Bracco, yea he's good in the junior but please he is still a far away from being an NHLer if ever.
Kapanan given age, productivity, skills, size would indicate he has great upside to be a good NHLer....but that just speculation too.
When Leafs acquire players they should use their cap space and ability to spend to the cap to get the best deals possible.
