Description
Just making this roster the way it looks now, no additions. Basically, here is my gripe. Look at these contracts: Kane Couture Vlasic Karlsson Burns. Those contracts show a team trying to win. Regardless if you think they're good or not, signing those contracts shows the team WANTS to contend. Yet, we've done nothing in FA to TRY. We only have two more years before Hertl leaves or gets PAID. The team has to TRY to contend, or past efforts have failed. We are unable to trade these guys away, and I'm content with us sucking for five years with the awful contracts, but this is the team's best shot for the next 10 years. The team is only gonna get worse.

Also unrelated but does DW seem to contradict himself so much. In his pressers he CONSTANTLY emphasizes a want for competition. Then signed 3 bottom 6 wingers. Like competition and trial players go on the 3rd line, but you basically just signed one. Doesn't make sense to me. I really think Leonard should play, but I can't see it with this roster. Also I have Merkley playing because literally we currently have 3 RD under contract

Those contracts aren't going to get better. Slow and painful death for this core. Think GMDW should sell asap.

Doug knows this year is a garbage show. Why try to stack the roster and block development when they might not play. We spend this year getting guys like Merkley, Melni and Leonard/ Dahlen in the system, then when we know what we need we get it next year and go for a run.

The no movement/trade clauses for a bunch of players make it sticky. Burns could go in the expansion draft honestly. I realize the painful death is imminent and will last 5-6 years. But this is the best chance the team has for the next 10 years, so at least try.

Next year all the aging players are older, a piece goes to Seattle, and Karlsson and Hertl don't get 10 months rest. This could be the last year before all the huge contract players are outright liabilities.

Maybe, but we dont have the cap space to really do anything crazy. Next years Vlasic Buyout is much easier to absorb, same with Jones. Also Burns or Simek being lost to seattle arent big deals when we have replacements for both on the way. If the team does amazing then Doug will add at the deadline, but I doubt a Kahun or Craig Smith is the difference between playoffs or not

I hear you and understand exactly what you're saying and agree... it's incredibly frustrating.

But I'm convinced that DW will pull off either a major transaction like a Cirelli (maybe Barzal if he ships Kane off to CBJ with Nyquist down or Burns to PHI?) offer sheet or a few depth moves to shore up the roster. If he doesn't it's just really bad GMing.

There's still probably a couple months of offseason left, maybe Wilson is waiting some of these UFA's out to sign them as cheap as possible.

Offer sheets are not happening. (We don't have a 2nd this year which makes it tricky) It sours relationships with GMs and yeah it's dumb. TalkingHockey talks about it often

But healthy Erik Karlsson, Couture, Hertl, Meier, Burns, Kane, those players don't let you tank. The Sharks sucked this year because often 1 or 2 and at one point 3 of those guys were out. We're the future minnesota wild

Healthy Karlsson, yes.
Burns is a black hole defensively. He needs someone to play more defensive (like Ekholm-Subban in NSH).

The Sharks sucked this year because they don't have enough talent. The offense is mediocre at best, the defense is aging, and the goaltending is a disaster.

Hertl missed parts of the early season and all the end with injuries (was also playing on that ankle injury at the start), Couture missed a lot, Kane missed with suspension, Karlsson is never healthy. This year the full Sharks were not playing. The roster I put right there was not playing.
