Imagine thinking you can get Zub and Balcers when you aren’t even paying enough to dump Eriksson or Boychuk for future considerations

Probably not. He’s cheap. Imagine having all of those picks going forward added to what they already have.

No Regerts

Picks are fun, they give wild eye imagination for the anything can happen crowd. Balcers is going to be a 20+ goal scorer, and you already have him. Zub looks solid, but is an unknown right now. Sometimes the best trade option is not making a trade.

Melnyk spending in a pandemic but won’t during great economic times awesome face

The Fleury trade is off as you’re just retaining (7M in total) for 2 first round picks (Carolina & Vegas) and getting Reimer (whom has value).

Ottawa missed a great opportunity to weaponize their capspace. I like the idea of picking up Fleury, retain some salary and then flipping him to a team (and Carolina needs a goalie!), but last I heard Nilsson is questionable, he still has issues with a concussion, so i doubt he has any trade value until he is able to return to play. Hogberg should be fine as a backup, and they have a few good goalie prospects coming.

Why they gave up anything to acquire Gudbrandson when they couldve likely gotten another asset/pick to take on a contract like Boychuk, Hjalmarsson,Demers etc. is dumbfounding.
Adding Eriksson (who is owed very little, and is fine on your 4th line) and getting another asset for nothing more than capspace (or a LTIR waste like Gaborik), should be a no brainer, although I doubt the Canucks are willing to move a 1st rounder to do it.

Canes pass. MAF was worse than any of the goalies this year. Not paying a 1st to get him.

I don’t really see the potential in Balcers.

He’s been very good in the AHL, but hasn’t been good in the NHL in 51 games so far. I look at that WC line and see real potential. It’s only a 7 game tournament, but it’s against men. I’m not saying Balcers will be a 25-30 goal guy, but there’s a strong possibility he can be a 15-20 goal, 35-40 point middle6 winger, secondary scorer, with a 20+ goal career year at some point.

We’ll have to wait and see. A lot of people do agree with you, even if I don’t.
