Deal with Philly

Created by: Hammerwise
Team: 2020-21 Nashville Predators
Initial Creation Date: Nov. 10, 2020
Published: Nov. 12, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Patrick, now scrimmaging migraine free is the key to this. Whether PHI wants Johanssen for 5 yrs at 8mil is a question. JVR is still a good bet for 25 goals a year and would look good in NASH on PP. Johansen is the best player, but a healthy Patrick makes this deal happen.
Cernak would be a top 4 RD in NASH for years and is massive upgrade on Benning, the price is taking on the little speedster Johnson, who hopefully can be moved at a later date.
Duchesne, Patrick and Johnson at center is not as quality as hoped, but JVR, Patrick, Johnson, Cernak are much better than Johansen and Benning
Still 3.5mil in cap space.

Hi Hammer,
really nice trade proposals from your end.

Ad trade 1 - huge doubt Philly accepts though I'd like to see it happen.
Ad trade 2 - can imagine Tampa nods if you change Benning for Fabbro.

Thanks,

Yeah it comes down to PHI accepting that 8mil for 5 more years for a rather underwhelming 1C. But Johansen could play 1RW (instead of over reliance on Frost) or create a very good 3rd line with 2 of Frost, Voracek, Farabee.

As far as the 2nd deal with TB, due to taking Tyler Johnson (who no one wanted for free), NSH stays with Benning in the offer, which still gives TB a fairly steady defense with a 5-7th dmen of Coburn, Schenn and Benning. It creates almost 7mil in cap space for TB.

Flyers would decline that. As much as we would love to see JVR go there is no way he gets shipped out to get an even bigger contract in return at the expense of losing Patrick.

Johansen sucks. Hes got a top 10 worst contract in the NHL
Hes an average player paid to be a superstar

JVR might be overpaid by like 1-2 million. Johansen is overpaid by like 5 million

Will Nolan Patrick get protected for expansion draft? If not, do you think there's a chance he gets picked by Seattle? I figure Patrick and Mittelstadt could be good targets for Seattle if they aren't protected.

I think that will be dependent on if/how he plays this year but most likely I would think he gets protected just based off age and potential despite the injury concerns.

Philly without any moves, easily protects Patrick. Their 3 dmen protected are sanheim, provorov and myers, exposing braun and hagg, but looking at who they'll have to expose at forward, they easily have space to protect Patrick, (Giroux, Hayes, TK, Lindblom, Farabee, Patrick, Coots) unless due to COVID they change the protection rules on games played. AT forward, Raffl and Laughton are UFAs, Frost, (maybe Farabee), won't have qualified, leaving expensive JVR and Voracek as choices and possibly NAK.

Seattle would probably look at selecting Hagg/Ghost or NAK in the scenario for PHI, in the lineup above NASH will be hard pressed, because they've got 5 dmen including Fabbro they'll want to keep, but could expose JVR, Duchesne, Tyler Johnson and I think SEA passes on those contracts.

Just curious.. how many players that have scored .7 points per game over the past 4 seasons are paid 3 million per year? And that's including this past season which was a down year. Not saying he's not overpaid, but 5 million?

Its not just about points. hes a decent point getter, but hes not good at creating his own offense and driving play. His defense is shaky at best

To be fair, UFA and the flat cap have changed a lot. DeAngelo in NYR got a real similar deal to the one Ghost got at the same point in their careers, this off season. But most UFAs are stuck because a lot of teams are capped out internally, so youre seeing guys like ceci sign for below regular market value.

JVR got 7mil in the UFA market which was just a bit off, but I'm sure at that point there were many offers in the 6+ million range, same with Johansen. Now do they look like overpayments, sure.

JVR is still a 25 goal, 45-50 pt guy, who even in todays market would fetch 5mil or more, Johansen would catch 6.5-7mil even in todays market. Hell, Hall just got 8 mil and Gallagher just got resigned for 6.5mil in this squeezed market. Saying JVR and Johansen are overpaid is not incorrect, but I'd add they're both overpaid by about 1 mil and not much more, even in this market.

JVR at 5.5mil would be an easy trade for Philly, Johansen at 6.5mil would be a bargain for NASH.

But again, a lot of these guys on here, look at Ghost's injury filled year, playing 3LD behind Provorov and Sanheim and believe he has negative value in trade, even with a career season average of 43 pts including a shortened 1st season and last years disaster.

I agree, I think of him as an average 1C, but hes paid as an above average 1C, that's why I think NASH jumps on this proposal, but hes the best NASH has. JVR is a top 6 LW, but in Philly with Giroux, lindblom and farabee at LW, hes expendable.

I think in the lineup above for nashville you go 7 3 1 and leave Ellis + Ekholm Exposed. Seattle takes one of those two most likely and Cernak and Fabbro cover the losses and the team keeps trucking along. If PHI can easily cover Nolan, i doubt they trade him unless they've completely lost faith in him as a player.
