Sabres dont have room, probably looking for a rhd/lhd swap with roughly the same cap hit. Plus smith as a player isnt appealing at all

That,in my opinion,is amazing for them...and an overpayment for Dunn and Thomas.

Those are STL's 2 best players under 25 and they have plenty of team controlled years upcoming - I think NY would have to give up something that hurts vs this package of parts that they can live without.

Rangers aren't throwing away our only good C prospect.

But at the same time Robert Thomas is already in the NHL and can play Center on the 2nd line. So?

I love Buchnevich and would be interested in Schneider/Lundkvist but there's pretty much no scenario in a flat cap world where we are giving up Thomas

Based on what? Thomas is a low-end top six center right now while on an ELC with tons of room to grow and team control. Dunn is going to cost less than 3 million on a short term deal and is a ten goal, thirty point NHL defenseman right now with tons of room to grow as well.

Barron doesn't project to be anything near what Thomas is now or in the future. Buchnevich is great, but Thomas is cheaper and a center. Schneider is fine and the RHD aspect is a need for the Blues, but Dunn is better now. When is Schneider going to be in the league? Picks are great except that those picks are going to be late late rounders.

The Blues are trying to win right now as well. What is the motivation to take the step back here if we're not even going to get better in the future?

Dunn by himself is worth at least a mid-1st, and Thomas is worth more than Dunn. He's a star in the making. And that's before you even get to the reality that the Blues are not trading cheap, blossoming right now contributors with very high ceilings for futures. They are in win now mode. You may not see it somehow, but this offer would obviously have no allure for the Blues.
