points over the last 4 seasons
rielly 15th
theodore 47th
in 18/19 when rielly was healthy and on the #1 powerplay unit he was the best offensive defenceman in the nhl (except maybe burns). He was tied with Giordano for 2nd. Theodore was 37th in points
I think I'm gonna hang on to rielly, even if he's not as good defensively
rielly is the secret sauce to the leaf's offence. it's no wonder the team seemed off this year when their #1 dman was either playing hurt or straight up not in the lineup

I really liked theodores performance in the playoffs, but I don’t know if I should take that over a player who has proven he can put up 60+ points consistently. You’re right, he is a key piece to the offence.

especially considering rielly is gonna have an actually competent partner this year, combined with the team's health, with keefe not being afraid to ride him 28 mins per game, I think Rielly is gonna dominate

But Toronto is losing in the deal!! Vegas gets the bigger end of the stick, IMO. S.Theodore just turned 25 and M.Rielly turns 27 this season. So Theodore is 2 years younger. And already a better Offensive Defenseman. But Riley is close. And Defensively they are similar. It’s not a sin or crazy to say one is better than another Defensively Thoedore plays RHD too which is more valuable. But he’s still a Left-Hamded shot. Just plays on his off-side. They are Similar D-man though. Reilly is a former 5th overall pick and looking back should have been #1 overall that year. But that draft was weak. Says more about how weak that draft class was than how good Morgan Rielly is. But giving them Rielly and Liljegren and a late 1st and late 2nd is definitely an Over-Pay!!
If Vegas wanted to trade S.Theodore and Toronto wanted to trade M.Rielly and T.Liljegren. Vegas would/should take this deal, IMO.
I think M.Rielly, and the 1st round pick is enough value. Or M.Rielly and Liljegren seems like good value for S.Theodore.
If Vegas wanted to trade Theodore they would ask for a young NHL player with potential, a prospect and a 1st. They would be getting M.Rielly and the 1st. Or M.Rielly and the prospect in this case!!
Personally I’d take Theodore over Reilly but it’s admittedly very close, I’d be happy with either on my team. Vegas would decline even just for contract reasons. Reilly is going to make a lot more than $5.2M per season (assuming he’d even sign with cap strapped Vegas) and right now that extra capspace Is likely worth more than liljegren.
It’s a pretty good trade though, VGK just isn’t the right partner because of their cap situation.

I think Vegas is trying to win now, so Rielly with a slightly lower cap hit for less term would help them in the longer term, rather than Theodore who has basically the same cap hit for another 5 years. I just think this is good for both teams.
