No way Carter is worth that much at this point right?

Nah. Especially with his contract.

Ya, since they are retaining and the Pens are getting a D prospect back, and he’s pretty much NHL ready. He’s not a great prospect but a “B” prospect. Maybe “B+” since he’s a right -handed shot D.

But ya, I didn’t think he was worth a ton either. But retaining 2M during this time has value too.

That’s a lot for Carter and would make it hard to re-sign Marino next year with everyone else. It would be better if Carter was a rental and cost less. With this deal though, I think taking out one of Legare or the 2nd would make the deal fair. Cause that Carter contract is...woof. Even with the retention. If it wasn’t a flat cap next year and likely the following year, I’d say it might be worth the gamble though.

Yeah i agree

Yes, I would too. I agree!! I like N.Legare. And J.Carter is better than Granlund. That’s why I threw in that prospect. He’s like their 3-4 D prospects b/c their farm system is so ridiculously deep. #1 ranked in the NHL. He’s a former 2nd round pick, Offensive D, that runs the Point on the PP. I wanted to get a prospect back too, if I was giving up N.Legare..lol.

Ya, the 3.2M is still high for a 35 year old. We’ll get Marino/Blueger and ZAR signed this offseason. All 3 are restricted and Marino doesn’t have arbitration rights. Janko is a Restricted FA too.

penguins have no interest in a 35 year old carter.
This is a team trying to get younger and faster not older and slower. Send him to TOR where they want every old vet with "grit"

Yep, I agree they want to get younger and faster. I don’t think he would be a bad fit though. I think he’s still better than Haula and Granlund. And Everyone loves Haula, and I wouldn’t mind signing him. I wouldn’t hate it. But I don’t think it’s a great move either though. He’s injury prone and not the fastest guy to begin with.

And I think we already got younger and faster moving on from horrnqvist, j.Johnson, J.Shultz, C.Sheary. And bringing on Kappy, Matheson Jankowski, Sceviour and bringing back E.Rodrigues.

As someone that has watched Durzi play in Ontario, I can verify that he is not anywhere close to NHL ready. Unless he takes huge strides this season, he'll need at least 2 more seasons in the AHL before he will crack an NHL roster.

He played in the AHL last year right?? In my opinion the AHL is the 2nd best league in the World. Then the KHL. My reasoning is, b/c it’s a much closer game to the NHL than the KHL is. Liiga and The Swedish hockey league are also very good!! But for me it goes: NHL, AHL, KHL, SHL, Liiga as the top 5 pro hockey leagues.

Hard pass on Carter due to his age considering diminishing returns, and what he brings on the ice considering contract (even at $3.3M) and that his age will mean those diminishing returns again.

Really throwing that term “prospect” around here. Pens aren’t exactly full of promising prospects at this point. As for carter, he just a dump at this point. Couple of picks would do the trick.

N.Legare is a “B+” prospect. Bjorkqvist is a former 2nd round pick. A “C”, “C+” prospect. You just don’t know who they are.

He played some, but he was injured for much of the season and was a healthy scratch for part of it as well. He ended up playing 39 games for the Reign. His offensive game was solid, but his defense was below-average, at best.
