I personally think CGY could go deeper in playoffs after making this trade, but I don’t disagree on a value basis. I think Poile could afford to add to this deal because of getting the younger Monahan piece.

Yes hanifin is good but he’s not as good as he was suppose to be when he was drafted, Carlo in the other has turn into one of the best shutdown defenseman, so yes Carlo won’t score more than 25 points, but he will let his partner create more opportunities, and will won’t make costly mistake

Hanifin and Carlo are close, a 2nd is too much. And for the third time of the day, the Bruins shouldn't do this deal because they add a left D by trading a right D. It's the same problem: it leaves a hole in the top4 for Boston. And a $4.5M D on the third pair?

I hear that. I added picks because of the contract difference — Hanifin brings certainty on that front. Though I wouldn’t expect Carlo to extend for more than $4.95M in either BOS or CGY in the current environment.

Would BOS do this deal if it’s Hanifin for Carlo straight up and if Hanifin was able to play the right side? (I thought he played the right side in CAR for a while, but can’t confirm).

Calgary gets fleeced in the Nashville deal. Johansen hasn’t been playing well and is paid more than everyone in the deal while Forsberg, Gaudreau, and Monahan have all been doing well

No. Bruins need a top4 D because they only have McAvoy, Grzelcyk and Carlo. If they trade Carlo, they have Hanifin and Grzelcyk on the left side but only McAvoy on the right. The problem isn't the value. If you traded DeBrusk for Hanifin, then it would make more sense because we acquire a dmen without giving up another one.

But then we weaken our secondary scoring and 5v5 scoring.... something we need more of

Agreed and I know, I wouldn't do it, just said it makes more sense than Hanifin for Carlo. I would only move DeBrusk if you get an upgrade and that new forward has more than one year on his contract.
