We aren't paying Detroit a 3rd to accommodate trading a star to our biggest rival.

Maybe Toronto should go for a defenseman?

Hall deal aint happening and they say you need 9 D deep to go into the playoffs. You are better off spending your money their.

You can’t retain 50% of a players contract.

And Buffalo and Detroit are already retaining salary on 2 players. You can only retain salary on 3 players at a time. They would max both teams out of their buy-out options and retaining anymore salary on any more players in trades.

They should upgrade the defense Instead. The fact that Zach Bogosian will be in the top 4 is concerning.

For that, they absolutely would. Its not like they're gonna have to face hall in the playoffs

They were five points behind Toronto at last years deadline for the last WC spot, with a horrible forward core. A shortened season will help Buffalo all a lot because they always fall apart after the TDL.

Yes you can retain 50% of a contract. That is the limit.

No they won't. A 1st, then move up a round from 3rd to 2nd( and if they aren't going to the playoffs, moving up on 10 to 13 spots, and a B level prospect.

    Package is underwhelming.

I meant more than 50%, sorry.

Detroit is holding j.abdelkader and S.Weiss’s contracts on their books still.

You can only retain up to 50% on a player, So if Buffalo is already retaining 1/2 on Hall's contract then Detroit can't retain $2 million. It would need to be both Buffalo and Detroit retaining $2 million each on Hall.

Of all the positions that are needed for the Leafs to upgrade is LW. And really Hall isn't worth anywhere near that much, as history as shown. And trading the competent and cheap Holl?shakes head

Abdelkader and Weiss are buyouts which are completely different than salary retention. A team can retain on up to 3 players maximum.

This is incorrect. Both teams can retain 50%. As in this instance buffalo can retain 50% then detroit can infact retain 50% of the 4m making halls cap hit 2m.

To be honest... at the moment LW may be our weakest position. Isn’t that a great feeling..,

Agree though. Not worth the assets it would take.
