If Montreal are not playoff contenders it will likely mean most if not all of these players are struggling and thus not worth the returns you are proposing here

Tatar-Danault-Gallagher are always good
Armia half retained is certainly worth a 2nd round pick in 2022
Anyway they are worth at least a 1st both Danault and Tatar

If we are sellers at the deadline we trade I’d say Danault, Tatar, Armia and Weal unless we sign one of them to an extension

They were definitely playing well and with the depth Montreal added this offseason along with minimal development from their young players they will be greatly improved even if Tatar - Danault - Gallagher take a slight step back

I think you could expect these types of returns for a normal trade deadline period, but a lot of players took a 1 year deal this off season and there’s a fairly deep pending UFA pool. I wouldn’t expect a lot of guys to be traded depending where their current teams sit and how the playoff format is done, but it might not be as fruitful for trade returns as hoped - and this is coming from a fan who’s team is expected to sell off what they can at the deadline.

I don’t see Danault bringing back that much for half of a condensed season!! Maybe a 2nd and a 3rd.

I think the last 4 out of 5 1st round picks the penguins have moved they have taken players with term.
Kap, zucker, Kessel, Brassard. The only one there was Reaves which was a total **** trade.

I don't think they are taking a rental.

You guys think Bergevin is in charge of the next rebuild/reset if things go south this year?

No, he’ll be fire but they won’t reset. They’ll keep going without Danault Tatar

If the team misses the playoffs, I don't see why the team should rebuild, and I certainly don't see why MB should get the axe.

I'm not a big fan of the guy, he's not enough of an intellectual for my liking, but the truth is he's doing a good job at building the core and the pipe, and he's made very few mistakes (Alzner, perhaps the Drouin trade, maybe Anderson and Edmundston contracts). His vision is not flawless, but it's not like it's blatantly off either. Plus, is there a decent replacement out there? I can't think about a competent french-speaking candidate that would be available.

Not to mention: swapping the GM has never pushed a middling team into a contender overnight. It certainly relief some pressure from the fan base, but it's still a panic move. To let go of MB, ownership would have to be convinced that the master plan is faulty, and for that to happen everything would have to go completely off the rails very quickly, which is unlikely to happen IMO.

IMO Bergevin is a top5 GM in this league. I like him because he’s doing a great job, but Molson said we need to make the playoffs this year. Bergevin contract expires after this season so if MTL don’t make the playoffs, he MIGHT not receive a contract extension ( but I’m sure he’ll stay )
