Two Cap Dumps to Anaheim

Created by: OldNYIfan
Team: 2020-21 New York Islanders
Initial Creation Date: Nov. 15, 2020
Published: Nov. 16, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
To make this scheme work (i.e., create enough cap space to sign Barzal short-term at $8 million), one of Cizikas, Clutterbuck or Komarov has to be moved. I chose Cizikas for purposes of this exercise.

Think we could trade Barzal to Anaheim for cool reverse retros?

A couple of places have suggested that the Barzal number could be close to $6.5M x 2 or 3

No thank you from NYI. Locking ourselves into that much retention is a bad idea.

There are a lot of ways this could go. At $6.5, the Isles could take someone cheaper from Anaheim (like Sonny Milano or Jacob Larsson) and keep Cizikas. Or at $7.75, could take Larsson and move Hickey instead of Cizikas.

Having trouble paying Barzal is a much, much worse idea.

Trading our best forward prospect when the isles lack shooting talent isn’t a good idea. There are other ways to shed cap

Well, until we see those "other ways," we won't know that they actually exist.

It was implied a few days ago that someone on the isles is either retiring or going on LTIR. Let’s say it’s hickey (2.5 x2). Then they can bury boychuk in the AHL and trade komarov (bellows ,2nd, 3rd)

Ducks are going to need AT LEAST 3 more 1sts and a high end prospect or Matt Barzal to even consider this

We're getting two firsts, including a RW prospect who is more highly rated than Troy Terry, in this deal. I'm perfectly happy with the return. The 2018 first (Wahlstrom) in particular is better than a 2022 first.

You’re joking right? If not, Detroit would take this all day. 2 years of Boychuk @ 3M and 3 years of Ladd @ 3.2M who will probably LTIR in a year anyway.

Moreover, the receiving team would owe Boychuk $2.25 million and Ladd $4.6 million in real money, or only $6.85 million spread over three years, in return for a 2018 first (Wahlstrom) and a 2021 first -- to my mind, a pretty good return.

Could be potentially less if Ladd goes LTIR at some point and the contract is insured. I’m not the biggest Wahlstrom fan but that’s a great return. It comparison the Marleau buyout was 4M cash.
