Fair trade Eichel= Gaudreau + 2 1st Bennett is better than Girgensons and Gio is better than Montour so technically Buffalo wins but that is the price for Eichel

yet you see the two delusional people who commented before you. buffalo fans wont be happy with a proposed eichel trade unless theres 10 1sts and Conner Mcdavid going back. actually irrational

Listen, I get it. There's a lot of unrealistic expectations as to what a guy like Eichel would bring back, but this ain't it.

-You can no longer put trade conditions on picks based around re-signing a player.
-Who the heck would play C for Buffalo?
-6 years of Eichel > 2 years of Gaudreau/Gio
-Odds are those 2 1st would be late.

Not a lot of motivation for the Sabres to do this deal.

buffalo has a much better chance of re-signing Gaudreau then Calgary does especially because in his signing year 13.5 million would be coming off the books with gio and gaudreaus contracts ending.
A first round pick is a first round pick and two of them is pretty good regardless of how late they could end up being.
yes centre becomes a question mark for buffalo but their wings would be incredibly loaded. bennet would probably end up being second line centre which is a little weak but he could elevate playing with the talent on the wings
at this point gergensons and montour are in the deal to equalize the money. so Calgary gets the best player but the next three best players are going to buffalo
throw in the second and this trade is definetly favoring buffalo.

another possibility is switching gaudreu with monahan if buffalo really wants a centre coming back but im not sure thats the case or would draw as much interest as gaudreau

not to mention another bad year in buffalo and Eichel will be asking for a way out

Still a no. Sabres have at least 2 more seasons with Eichel, I’m sure he doesn’t want to be moved before his NMC kicks in.

You're looking at this as if Calgary is the only team that could make a deal with the Sabres. Look at Buffalo's lineup, and the upgrades that they've made, and tell me that they should run out and move the only guy capable of playing that #1C role. They've already got good depth on the wings, they solidified their 2C by getting a year of Staal to ease Cozens in, and their D is actually not that bad. If the Sabres are looking to make any sort of move, it should be between the pipes. Not trading a franchise center.

Also, if they do have a bad season, and Eichel asks to be traded, so be it. It's not like him demanding to be moved will lower his value. If you need to, make a move at that point. He's signed for 6 more years, and doesn't have a NMC until 2022-2023.

How does getting rid of their first line center without one in return make them better

1. i love being called delusional lmfao 2. you want jack eichel, a top 5 center for the next handful of years who is on a great contract, for 2 years of gaudreau who is coming off a down year and 2 years of 37 year old gio. yeah the firsts are nice but they're uncertainties and bennett is whatever. and i'm the irrational one...

fair enough clearly the buffalo sabres organization has been doing the right things as they are definetly one of the top teams in the league. good luck when eichel demands a trade and refuses to play to leave that disaster of an organization. Buffalo has such a good track record for their trades in the last few years so i look forward to seeing the package that eichel inevitably brings them

see
Ryan o'Reilly trade
evander kane and ultimately montour trade
Jeff Skinner signing

clearly based on the above moves eichel is gonna bring in some superstars....................

New gm. The old one was just brutal. This one looks much better, the quinn pick at 8 with rossi and perfetti on the board may come back to haunt him, but other than that he has made decent moves (hall, staal, resigning reinhart at 5m...)

aside from a couple of seasons the sabres have been bad since 2001 and have been truly awful since 2012. It wasn't just the GM.

lol 1990 is a convienient year to pick. flames and sabres have won the same amount of playoff rounds since 1990. 8!!!!

Flames also won the cup in 89

Sabres have not won a cup ever. 50 years!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

flames have also never picked higher then 4th overall meanwhile the sabres have been in the top three picks 3 times in the last 5 years and in the top 10 for the last 8 years. Literlly 0 reason for the team to be as bad as it is right now

all this said i agree they have made some pretty good moves this offseason so heres to hoping they are not complete trash again

Since when did the Calgary Flames become the gold standard for success in the NHL. They have lost 8 of 9 playoff series over the past 15 seasons. They won a cup 30 years ago before you were born. Noone is saying the Sabres are world beaters but trying to pose that Calgary is on some fantastically higher level is just not rational
