Kotkaniemi can't get placed above the Leafs 2nd round pick this season, why would he get placed above Robertson?

EmsuhaJW8AYyukb.jpg%3Alarge?width=532&height=532

LMAO. One of them is a regular player for Assat, who will play for them all year, and the other is a guy that’s playing with them for a few weeks just to get into game shape. Not to mention the fact that Assat is obviously better off trying to develop Hirvonen, because they get paid if he makes the NHL, whereas they already got their money for KK.

Btw Kotkaniemi had the highest icetime of all Ässät forwards in that match. 7 minutes more than Hirvonen for instance.

The lines in Liiga doesn't mean that much. And this is coming from a Finn.

All I see are excuses for why your guy can't even play the 1C role in the Liiga.

He's playing 1C role in Liiga though. At least in terms of ice time.

Oh come on, he's being loaned to his junior team as a covid loan. As the season in NHL unfolds he'll return to NHL. He's slot in the NHL is pretty much confirmed.

Hirvonen, who was the Leafs 59th selection in the 2020 draft, played higher in the lineup than Kotkaniemi. No doubt Kotkaniemi won't be good, but I see him more of a bottom 6 forward than top 6. Trading Domi, while expecting Kotkaniemi to replace his production wasn't smart for Bergervin, while blowing all of the accumulated cap space from trading Domi on Anderson who only had 4 points last season. Let's say Kotkaniemi doesn't pan out as Habs fans were hoping for, who plays centre?

Robertson by a hair (for the leafs) because I feel like he'd be a great compliment to Matthews and Marner, and I like his goal-scoring touch. Can't go wrong with both of them though.

Just because hes in the 2nd row of a graphic design doesnt mean hes worse than the guys in the 1st row. He leads forwards with 19:07 of ice time per game, which is nearly a minute more than the next closest forward on the team

It seems you ignored my post entirely. I'll let you see it again.

Domi of Anderson was a bad deal for MTL, I agree with you that much.

Kotkaniemi was drafted as a big two-way top-6 C, and there's literally nothing in his development pointing that he wouldn't become just that. It's very tough for rookies to take such role immediately though. Especially with Habs having Danault there who started to look like a true first round pick at 25, and is now very revered two-way center in the league. Kotkaniemi's ceiling at it's lowest is projected to be around what Danault is now...couple of misgames in Liiga aren't changing this.

Robertson is an easy choice. He has top 6 potential while Kotkaniemi does not

are you mad Kotkaniemi is already a 2C

Says more about the Habs than it does about Kotkaniemi. Some day they'll get that true 1C to push all these other guys down into their more suited roles.

I don't think you call it a sophomore slump when its a higher goal scoring pace than he had in his first season.

Finnish is a very tough language to learn for anyone who isn't a native speaker. It's one of the most unique languages.

It shows that you're a teacher since you used the correct grammatical case with the ni-termination in the word ystäväni for example which translates for my friend. Without that termination, the word would've been ystävä which stands only for a friend.

See? This language is f*cking bonkers.

Both are great prospects but as of today the edge has to go to the guy who has played in the NHL. Who knows how this battle will turn out after their respective careers. Only then can we definitively say that one was better than the other. Robertson will very likely turn out to be a top 6 winger and Kotkaniemi has already proven he is capable of being a top 6 center. I don't think either team is unhappy with either draft choice or would trade one for the other.
