So basically 5 years of Mitch Marner for 2 years of Johnny Gaudreau, Why would Kyle Dubas do this? Guadreau walks in 2 years for Philly. Makes no sense what so ever.

While I don't hate the trade (I don't think we should trade Marner but it's not terrible), I'd be very worried about the term on both those contracts. They're both gonna want raises in two years and we have other contracts (mainly Rielly) to worry about that year. I'd prefer to keep Marner locked up for 5 years.

Easy no for Toronto. The term left on the Calgary players is too low. You also don't need to add picks to the Kerfoot trade when you can force them to choose between Kerfoot and Holl already, both of whom you traded away.

I don't understand that Kerfoot move. Does he play the season with the Leafs?

If traded prior to the season, what does Seattle have to do with anything?

Also like others have said that 2 years of Gaudreau is rough. Pretty well means this team has about 2 years to contend, then it's blown up.

The problem with trading Marner and getting equal value is, no matter what, both teams in the trade end up crippled. Either the Leafs leave themselves with a huge hole to fill in the top 6 and improve their D and the other team gives up an almost irreplaceable Dman, or Toronto Accepts a package of future assets, which does not fit our objective right now to win, and no rebuilding team would be willing to part with said assets to bring Marner in right now anyway. Or, Toronto receives a couple of wingers, neither of which is nearly as good, and now the team is worse, but in the same type of cap situation. We just traded 2 cheap wingers this offseason.

I’ve been on the Marner trade train for a long time, but I’ve come to the conclusion that it just wouldn’t be worth it, ever. The only way I see him getting moved, is if they ‘fail’ to perform this year, and Dubas gets canned. The new GM May move him, but I believe Dubas will lose his job before moving off of the big 3.

I do this deal if I'm leafs if I think I can make a cup run in next two years as it does improve the team short term. It would depend on gaudreau staying and at what price.
