All that for
Abramov, Vitaly
Amadio, Michael
2021 4th round pick (COL)

Probably better to trade Sergei and Cirelli with one of these guys and not lose so many picks. They are good but it’s not like losing them would be completely the worst. This team is stacked anyways

You really think TJ is going to waive his NTC to go to LA? Same for Killorn waiving to go to OTT? Not happening.

Why not? They won their cup, going to crazy talented young teams. Killorn was born around that area, TJ must love the sun, LA is cool, I dunno. Good situation for TJ

Gourde and killorn have positive value unlike TJ. I get they may not get their true value (similar to Schmidt) but zero chance TBL have to PAY to move them

I also don’t think TJ costs a first to move

Basing it off of paying a 2nd round pick to shed Staal. Serviceable player, TJ, serviceable player... add 3 years to that contract. To me that equals a 1st the way things seem to be.

TJ is light years better than Marc staal though, he’s just one season removed from 29 goals... people seem to forget that

I won’t deny I feel like it’s a Bit much. Could at least get better prospect back. I really hope TJ lights it up wherever he goes.

Defense is much more sought after than offense though. You can never have enough Defense is a commonly used phrase in the NHL. See JJ and Ceci contracts!! And TJ has 5 more years on his contract. Marc Staal is on an expiring contract.

He has 4 years left, and yeah but he’s a versatile forward who can play wing/ centre. I don’t think it’s gonna cost a first to dump him

Staal is on an expiring deal. TB said they are prepared to trade away 1st round picks in order to shred salary.

Staal isn't serviceable, he's a tragedy on skates. Four million bucks for zero offense and shambolic defense. Johnson is three years younger and can, ya know, help a team win.

This is interesting, the Killorn trade. I’ve been arguing against Byron, for months now, even when he’s offered with a 1st round pick. I’d actually consider this trade, even though the picks are worse, the player going back is better, and Killorn makes about a million a season more. They’re the same age, and contract length, so why Killorn and not Byron? Killorn could be considered a borderline core player, whereas Byron will always be considered depth. I’m not saying I’d take the deal, just that it’s more interesting than a Byron trade.

It’s like Dadonov, also 31, also three year contract, also for more money. Being a better player makes a difference. There are more Byron types than there are Killorn types in the league. More available means worth less, supply and demand basics.

I’d rather over pay a good player than over pay a meh player.

Ya dude Killorn is worth it, I hear he is a core guy! Something Ottawa could really use, this also makes them harder to play against. With the Canadian division she’s gunna be a tough one this year for sure. He’s from Nova Scotia so I’m sure he wouldn't mind kicking it and show the ropes to the youngins.

TJ has a NTC. He gets to pick and choose where he can go. Noone wanted him for free. Teams with more than 5M of free capspace (after you factor in their remaining RFAs)

Panthers
Blue Jackets if they can get Dubois to sign for 4-5M
Red Wings
Senators
Predators
Kings
Devils

I can't see many of those teams making his trade list that puts those teams with alot of leverage. This goes for the other players Killorn/Gourde. The cap appears like it's going to be flat for atleast one year. Some of these teams have some young talent that'll need signed over the next year or two and need to preserve capspace. From Nashville's perspective, the only player that i'd have any real interest in is Killorn and that's because 1) he had the best production out of the three last season and 2) he has the smallest caphit and shortest contract. His production has been relatively stable in that 40P region. Gourde's and Johnson's have both declined year over year.

except he plays defense which is always in need an easier to move and Johnson is a dime a dozen forward with an over paid salary that's 5 years long.

Lets be honest none of these trades are realistic.
OTT doesn't need another forward, nor do they want to carry one for 3 years. They have 13 forwards not even counting Stutzle. So that's not going to happen. They are stacked with prospects to play. He just gets in the way.
LA wants more than a 1st on that contract, as does everyone else. It's 4 years long at a very unreasonable cap hit for what you get.
Not nearly enough for a team to take over paid Gourde. He's not worth that cap hit for 5 years. That contract is one of the most unmovable in the league. He's not a 5 million player and no one is coughing that up for 5 years. Hell Dadanov makes less than him and he's a way better player. Why would a team want to take that on.
You'd be retaining on that contract if you moved him.
