Fabbri does not worth a single 2nd round pick so let that sink in wink
I understand that he's top 6 in DET but he's a 3rd liner at best with every other team.

Byron isn't going to be traded as a dump. If teams want him, they have to pay for him.

Right we are rebuilding though so byron to us is a cap dump, his stats mean absolutely nothing here for this argument. Same deal and take fabbri and the 4th out is more like it

Detroit would be stupid not to take Byron for free, at the end of the day, you could always just flip him and get quality picks and prospects. I get he's rebuilding so he would fit better somewhere else, but he's literally a quality player that is being dumped in this scenario (which would never happen btw). Nobody in the league is just going to trade picks and prospects for nothing just for the sake of doing so.

It's not for free if we have to give up fabbri though.

Also there have been 3 trades so far where a team gave up a player with a pick or prospect and received nothing in return for cap space

Did you see Fabbri's numbers? They aren't good, you could sign anybody in FA and they would likely do better than him.

I agree with you that Detroit shouldn't take Byron for free because of the current market, but Montreal also shouldn't trade Byron in the current market. It doesn't make sense for either team

He looked good with us and we like him, we aren't going to trade him because you think his numbers don't look good and then want him in a trade. That's my favorite argument, the guys numbers are so bad he stinks, but we want him anyway. We aren't moving him for Byron, this is not the direction of our team. It's byron + 2nd + 3rd for futures or the deal is a no go.

My thoughts are trade byron to a playoff team so you can get value for him instead of have to give up value to get rid of him

It's not my thread, I didn't want Fabbri nor do I think he's worth that contract. If anything, I'd say it's Montreal taking bad a bad contract to give Detroit even more incentive to take Byron (Posters thoughts not mine). I understand what you are saying, but this deal doesn't work for either team. He's not a cap dump nor should he be. Detroit shouldn't acquire him because they don't want to be competitive and that cap can be used to help the rebuild.

I agree with your second statement completely.

I noticed it wasn't your thread after I said that, sorry about that part. I agree this trade doesn't work either way.

Byron trending downwards due to injuries.
Fabbri trending upwards due to recent play.

Disagree. Detroit gets a solid PKing vet to mentor the kids.

We have plenty of those guys already.thus is a full pass on the wings and not the direction they are going at all. You can disagree all you want but we aren't trading fabbri
