my thought process is they have to make room for byram to come in and I thought cole was the odd one out. They move cole to get cap space, open a spot for Byram (who again, much lower cap hit) Then (assuming Hoffman will accept 5mil) they sign him one year to go all the way this year before they have to resign big names

but you didnt make cap room, you created an even tighter cap for the Avs and you have no room for any call up.
Avs have no issues moving Cole as hes the 6th/7th dman but they dont need to sign a 5m UFA forward. as their top 9 is already pretty crowded, as you now have Calvert as the 13th forward (who is way too important to be sitting) and you blocked a spot for Kaut. Avs dont need a Hoffman, their top 9 is already pretty scary. If they wanted to mess around with 1 more depth signing, trying to get Haula or Grandlund on a cheap 1 year deal is a better fit than Hoffman TBH

Avs roster is pretty much done unless they move out serious money in forward in either Donskoi or Compher
