In this moment, i would take JDB over Gryz. But if Debrusk has another year of inconsistency, i can see it being a lot closer.

I think I'd take my chances losing DeBrusk and sign Hall next offseason.

I think part of the reason why we may haven't seen a move for a LHD is because Sweeney doesn't want to lose Debrusk and Grzelcyk via expansion

I really like the idea of Boston acquiring a high-end LHD to shelter Grzelyck in that 2nd pair role. Sergachevs a good guy to target- $6.25x5 is good (maybe rich in this market)- iI believe 4 would walk him directly into UFA so his AAV would likely drop if Boston loses that UFA year. I would use the Provorov contract as a comparable, although Provorov was signed before COVID and the implementation of a flat cap- he got $6.75x6. I like the backloaded 3 year bridge deals signed by Werenski ($5M) and McAvoy ($4.9) but that would make Sergs expiry year the same as Pasta's and who will get PAID.

He would probably sign that offersheet and it looks bleak that Tampa would match. If I'm Boston I'd rather lose Grzelcyk. LW for Boston is really thin. At least for LHD you still have Vaak and Zboril

Fair enough, its close. this year will most likely answer that question. In my opinion theres a good chance they dont sign/trade for another LHD and they end up protecting both, but who knows?

4 years would take sergachev directly to UFA, which literally just isn’t a concept in the NHL. 5 years+ or 3 years or less.

I think in this instance the bruins would just pay Seattle to not take either of those guys.

    I feel like

    Chara McAvoy
    Grzelcyk Carlo
    Lauzon Clifton

Would do the trick, but maybe I'm wrong.

You don't only lose DeBrusk if you protect 4F-4D. You have DeBrusk, Kase, Smith and Bjork exposed. Highly doubt they go 4F-4D-1G. They will probably do a side deal to protect Grzelcyk if this was to happen.

Well SEA can only take one player. If they only protect 4 fwds, do you see Seattle taking any of those players over DeBrusk?

I don't know who they will want. They have 4 good options so they can't really go wrong and Bruins lose a good player if they use that format.

It's just something the Bruins have to consider if they go after another top-4 D long-term. Staying where they are they can protect DeBrusk and Grzelcyk, but if they add another guy then they'll have to expose one of those two, more than likely.

Or pay their way out, which got UGLY when Vegas took advantage of a lot of teams that way. I think GMs are more wary and may not give up same value, but SEA holds all the cards. They don’t have to take your “expansion considerations” trade if they really like the player left exposed. It’ll definitely be interesting
