Haha I guess a lot of people are going to be surprised when oilers tear threw Canadian division. I really don’t understand how they aren’t 1st. Easily the best of the bunch even remove bias opinion and stick to common sense oilers roster is deeper than last year when they were the best Canadian team.

In your own words, please tell me how you see the Oilers falling from 1st to 4th next year.

Because they suck.

In all seroiusness, because the other teams got better, and the oilers did not.

I disagree, even as a leafs fan it's hard to see the oilers not being 1st or 2nd. They got some wingers to play with mcdavid, got some more forward depth, added barrie for a cheap price (he'll fit A LOT better on edmonton than in toronto). my only concern for them would be goaltending, but if Koskinen has a year like last year and smith doesn't fall off a cliff, they should be battling with the leafs for 1st or 2nd.

imo, the leaf's star power with their blue line additions, some vets that will push the guys to be more consistent and having some stupid good goaltending depth, I still think the leafs should finish 1st

Um... they added Turris, Kahun, Ennis, Puljujarvi, Barrie, Yamamoto (full season) and Jones (full season). No other Canadian team improved as much as the Oilers. Their forward depth is the best in the country and likely top-3 in the league.

Their goaltending is middling at best and their defence is bad. Very bad, even worse of klef is hurt all season.
Their forwards are also horrific defensive players save like 2 guys

yeah the goaltending is a huge question mark, and yeah, tbh I forgot about klefbom being out lol

still, forwards playing defence might not matter as much if mcdavid and draisaitl score like 130 points each

imo that's why I put the leafs over them for 1st, goaltending and defence. Despite what people say, Rielly, Muzzin, Brodie is an EXCELLENT 123, and with lehtonen being a total wildcard, Dermott maybe taking a step, bogosian sorting out the PK and Holl hopefully not sucking, I am optimistic

They won one game against the hawks last play in, and the hawks were like the only team who had worse defensive results than they did. It wont matter how much they can score if theh cant stop being scored on.

You got to be kidding me. I spent nearly 5 minutes writing about how all the other team off season additions were better than the oilers and it deleted. How annoying.

Sorry, I think you meant to put the oilers have the worst forward depth in the league. I hope. I'm worried if you actually think they have good depth,

I don't know. They have one of the worst depth in the league. I'd be suprised if the leafs don't get first.

Who has a stronger 7/8/9? Not Tampa... Washington... not Toronto... not Colorado... not Rangers. Those were the top-5 offensive teams last year.

Edmonton
Draisaitl: 1.55 P/GP
McDavid: 1.52
Yamamoto: 0.96
Nugent-Hopkins: 0.94
Kassian: 0.58
Neal: 0.56
Kahun: 0.55
Ennis: 0.53
Turris: 0.50

Tampa Bay
Kucherov: 1.25
Stamkos: 1.16
Point: 0.97
Killorn: 0.72
Cirelli: 0.65
Palat: 0.59
Coleman: 0.48
Johnson: 0.48
Gourde: 0.43

Washington
Ovechkin: 0.99
Backstrom: 0.89
Kuznetsov: 0.83
Vrana: 0.75
Oshie: 0.71
Wilson: 0.65
Eller: 0.57
Hagelin: 0.43
Panik: 0.37

Toronto
Matthews: 1.14 P/GP
Marner: 1.14
Tavares: 0.95
Nylander: 0.87
Hyman: 0.73
Mikheyev: 0.59
Thornton: 0.44
Kerfoot: 0.43
Spezza: 0.43

Colorado
MacKinnon: 1.35
Rantanen: 0.98
Landeskog: 0.81
Burakovsky: 0.78
Kadri: 0.71
Saad: 0.57
Donskoi: 0.51
Calvert: 0.50
Compher: 0.46

Rangers
Panarin: 1.38
Zibanejad: 1.32
Strome: 0.84
Kreider: 0.71
Buchnevich: 0.68
Chytil: 0.38
Kakko: 0.35
Lemieux: 0.31
Howden: 0.27

I haven't checked every team, but these are the top-5 offensive teams from last season. NYR should have Kravtsov and Lafreneiere in the lineup and Kakko should take a step forward, so they're a contender for #1 for sure. Here are the teams above ranked by top-9:

Edmonton: 7.69
Tampa Bay: 6.73
Toronto: 6.72
Colorado: 6.67
Rangers: 6.24
Washington: 6.19

Here they are again ranked by 7/8/9 scoring rates:

Edmonton: 1.58
Colorado: 1.47
Tampa Bay: 1.39
Washington: 1.37
Toronto: 1.30
Rangers: 0.93

Ennis played just 9 games for the Oiler last season and was a UFA in the off-season. Yamamoto played 27 games, 1/3 of a season. I'm counting them as "adds" as they will get a full season next year.

In any case, if you look at the period from December 31, 2019 (Yamamoto's 1st game) to the end of the season, you'll see that the Oilers were in fact THE #1 TEAM IN THE LEAGUE for offense, tied with Philadelphia. Since then they added Ennis, Kahun, Turris, Barrie and Puljujarvi. You can sneer all you want, but you're just ignoring plain facts.
