Explain to me why the Leafs would make that trade?

Pittsburgh decline. They have DeSmith at a better price, they would be over the cap/less than $500K of cap space and they should keep their picks for the upcoming years.

I don't know why people are linking goalies to the penguins, they aren't taking them on.
The organization is stacked with them.
They got D'Oreo and another guy in the AHL and Blomqvist and Clang in the wings.
They will ride out DeSmith until one of those younger goalies is ready to make a jump. It's not like he hasn't handled the workload before.

I’d be more curious to hear why you think they wouldn’t. That’s a BUFFALO 1st round pick you’re getting there.

It's top 10 protected though. If it was top 3 protected, okay sure I think the leafs would do it, although I don't really see the point in the two 2023 2nd rounders being added but whatever

If it ends up a top-10 pick this year and they decide to keep it, I’m sure next year’s will be even higher once Eichel demands a trade.

They are a team thats trying to win now. Yes they get cap space in that trade, but it makes the team significantly worse right now

I want absolutely no part of the toronto trade. If the pens will take hutton, even for a 7th, im all for it.

Why are you trading a 1st for a goalie thats foolish. Just ride out ullmark. And pray for hutton to not lose 12 in a row and you're competing

Not a chance anyone gives a third and fourth for Hutton and not a chance the Sabres make that trade with Toronto
