    sorry but mtl is canada's team... It doesnt mean they have to be the best team in Canada. Its like in the NFL the Cowboys are the NFL team but like they suck

    One of the first teams in Canada and the NHL plus they are the ones witht the most cups and etc.

    Historic because of a ridiculous rule that gave them an unfair advantage. Since the rule change, they have been fairly mediocre. Then again so has most of the Canadian teams so, I guess it makes sense for them to be Canada's team. Oilers did have a good run there in the 80s.

    The unfair rule is a common fallacy, and I once believed it to be true as well. I've had an extensive discussion on this in the past, where I was on the side of believing there was an impact from the "rule that gave them an unfair advantage", and after a lengthy debate, and research, the actual benefit was very slight. Yes there was a benefit, but iirc, it was 1-2 players, for a very short period of time, with minimal impact. The person I was discussing it with refused to admit even to that, but it is what it is.
