I thought Matt Martin also agreed to a deal with the Islanders, but it just hasn't been signed yet? I expect him to sign for about the 900k like Greene

Yeah I’m just saying it makes more sense to play koivula. They don’t need Martin, but yes he will be re-signed.

100% agreed. Even a 9.65 aav contract could look team friendly once Barzal hits his prime.

Yeah but in reality Greene is going to get 1.25 mill, Martin 1 mill and they’ll probably end up re-signing brassard to block the kids for the another year (hope I’m wrong). Barzal will still end up getting a bridge deal IMO.

Yeah, I wasn’t the biggest fan of Brass. Wahlstrom needs to get out of Bridgeport.

Brassard is fine as a 3rd line winger , but we have enough vets. Let the kids play

I hope to hell we dont resign brassard. I really think that RW3 is wahlstroms to lose. Barring injury cant see him not having that spot all season.

Yeah I don't want to re-sign brassard. wahlstrom 1st game back from injury today he had a goal and an assist.

we have a ton of NHL ready prospects - not all of them will be studs, but theyre cheap and can contribute. Aho, bellows, wahlstrom, Koivula are ready, Vande Sompel is probably close. the isles are one of the only teams that has a GM and a coach that hates playing young players.

the only hope for leddy is pairing him with dobson to get his confidence back. Leddy plays like hes 35 , but I don't fully blame him because to maximize his skill set you need to let him take risks, and trotz system doesn't allow that

Not blaming leddy but the front office and coaching staff. Also funny how for a full day there could be like 1 islanders team posted here and in the past 2 hours theres been like a full page lol.

On another team Leddy would be a decent 2nd pairing Dman - he doesn’t have the hockey IQ to play in a defensive minded system and still produce offensively. Toews and Dobson do, which is what separates them from Leddy. On an offensive minded system Leddy can rely on his offensive instincts and skating ability to be successful.

Trotz probably likes Leddy because of his work ethic and the fact that Leddy loves to workout. Trotz will play someone strictly because of their intangibles. It’s bizarre

For sure, but now the team must play the younger guys if they want to improve - or else they’ll be good enough to make the playoffs but not good enough to contend. Koivula, wahlstrom, Aho, and Dobson should all get significant playing time this season and That’s means not playing them 6-8 minutes a game

Dont know about koivula but im a big bellows guy. I think he secures 3LW and has a good season. The issue with him is that we cant protect him from seattle.

Koivula has 8 pts in his last 6 games in the best league in Finland. He’s not a great skater but makes up for it with high iq and his puck skills.

Lou and trotz don’t like bellows for some reason. He’ll probably get buried in Bridgeport. He’s a good player tho

Hopefully for him (and me) seattle takes him and he turns into that solid 2nd liner. But just like ho sang he will never be an islander.

Yeah I wouldn’t mind if bellows gets taken by Seattle. It’s honestly sad the double standard trotz has for vets/young players. Komarov can take a bad penalty every game and he’s out for his next shift. The young guys are always scapegoated
