at what point is a centre core TOO good, to the point where it would hurt the rest of the team
like how the hell would you even balance that ice time
also uh... no. EDM would literally want Matthews, Marner, a first, rielly etc. etc.
mcdavid is the best player in the world and he's not even in his prime yet. It's scary to think what his career is gonna look like
By moving one to the wing.
The reality is that McDavid doesn't have that kind of value. Hes good for 20-30 more points a season than Marner. The fact hes a center is valueless to the Leafs and hes worse in the defensive zone. The value added is worth about a 1st, a 2nd and the extra cap space.
Stuff like 'best player in the world' is nice and all but they are just bells and whistles. They don't actually hold value.
I'm getting the absolute biggest bang for my buck possible: Marner, Nylander, Andersen, Robertson, Sandin or Liligren, a 1st and a 2nd, with Neal, Russell & Koskinen going the other way with 0 retention. It's McDavid we're talking about here so basically, I get what I want or I hold on to the best player in the NHL until he retires with my club.

Stuff like that is why a GM is not motivated to move this kind of player. You're gonna ask for McDavid and then get choosey? "He's good but it doesn't mean anything" Holland and the boys are having a laugh bud,

Well the AGM assumes they are trying to move him. For that assumption to be true, something will have had to gone off the rails and McDavid have asked to be moved. Holland and the boys probably don't have the option to keep him. Like you said, you don't trade a player like McDavid normally.
Also important to consider that even if the Oilers are trading McDavid, McDavid is going to have a lot of influence on where he goes. The Oilers won't just have the option to move him anywhere.

@EsoYeezus69 Is this the premise? I've read nothing here that makes this assumption (unless I'm just blind af). This comes off much more like a "what would it take to get him" scenario to me really. But I could be primed that way though reading a Matthews playing with McDavid article recently so it could be my bad. What a hell of a bidding war league-wide that would be.

You said it yourself, 'Stuff like that is why a GM is not motivated to move this kind of player.' The only way a player like McDavid becomes available is because the Oilers want to move him.

Last offseason he spent the entire summer re-habing a near-career-ending knee injury instead of working out and training hard. He came in and scored 97 points in 64 games... after a healthy rest he scored 5 goals and 9 points in 4 playoff games.
I don't think we've seen peak McDavid yet. Hold on to your hat, the next few years are going to be fun.
Marner, Sandin, Robertson, two 1st rounders, and Andersen.
For McDavid and Koskinen.
That's the most I would give up if I'm Toronto, otherwise it simply is not worth it. And no they won't trade Matthews because the whole point is to get Matthews and McDavid together.

It was just to see the oilers fanbase and the leafs fanbase fight tbh, but yeah it comes as what it would take, not McDavid demanding a trade
