I assume you're referring to Boychuk retiring which is their best case scenario and certainly not fair.

Why are people whining about Boychuk retiring just because it helps the Islanders???

How is it cheating? Boychuk realizes he's not the same player he was when he signed the deal. He's not even the same player he was 3 years ago. Now Ladd needs to nut up, realize the same thing and stop leaching off the team.

Boychuk has seen multiple doctors over the last few months for his on going vision problems after taking a skate to his eye. He admitted that during the bubble he tried to play through it but was having problems. In addition to that he had a concussion from a stupid hit.

If Boychuk could play he would.

Lou developed the reputation of this people now see one of his players has an injury and they immediately assume he got sent to robidas island (which is clearly not fair since there were tons of reports trading boychuk was close)

I think people look forward to teams having to do things they don't want to.

this.

If it was their team , they would be thrilled - but a lot of hockey fans were looking forward to the isles being forced to give up a 1st+ to move his contract.

My team (Tampa) is in the most similar situation. I don't know that I want Johnson to retire though as I do like him and he's only 30. I do admit I was looking forward to the Isles having to give up a 1st and/or prospect.

He isn't "retiring" officially but he is unfit to play. True retirement would mean leaving money on the table. I believe he is owed $5.25m in actual dollars over the next two years - which will be collected on LTIR.
