Very solid, cheap top-4 D and a great F prospect that could potentially step right into our top-6. Would also make swapping Dunn for some goal scoring much more viable. Definitely serves ABSOLUTELY NO purpose for us. And I’ve never been open to dealing Sundqvist before.
1- We have no need for more D, top 4 or otherwise.
2- And adding Ekholm basically shoves Dunn out the door.
3- Calling Trenin a "great prospect" is an Elastigirl stretch. Actually, he's about to turn 24, so even calling him a "prospect" is a stretch. There is zero chance he could step straight into our top-6. He's not even in SKA's top 6 right now. Hell, he doesn't even dress regularly.
Meanwhile, we give up our only viable back-up goalie, who would obviously need to be replaced at a higher cost, and the very best of our bottom 6 guys (who is a solid depth scorer that has proven he can play up in a temporary pinch). Oh, and a 3rd. Plus, on top of all that, we'd actually add cap, both this year and next. So, yes, this trade would serve no purpose whatsoever for the Blues. It causes way more problems than it solves.
