Will They Regret Trading Hornqvist

Created by: AnalyticsGeek

Initial Creation Date: Nov. 26, 2020

Description
Though it hasn't been talked about a lot, I feel Hornqvist is gonna have a monster year in Florida next season. If he stays healthy, I bet he can get around 30 goals. He's going to be playing alongside 2 elite playmaking forwards who will be able to get him the puck in scoring areas, plus will see top PP time. I don't really understand why the Penguins didn't give Hornqvist much of an opportunity alongside Crosby over the past 2 seasons. Historically, the Guentzel-Crosby-Hornqvist line have always done great in terms of generating offence, yet the coach always played inferior guys like Sheary or Simon in that RW position. Honestly if they kept Hornqvist, there would've been no need to give up a 1st and top prospect for Kapanen. They could've used those assets to get an excellent 3C instead.

Hallander plays both wing AND center, so clearly you dont know much about him. His ceiling is defintely Kapanen.
The Leafs would have been much worse taking Schneider (especially Schneider) or Lapierre over him, Zary is right there but i prefer Amirov.

He hasn’t played C in years. No point in arguing with a guy who knows nothing about the player he’s talking about. I’m done here

Good luck with Hallander and Amirov buddy!! I’ll take Kappy!!

Ohh and by the Way Hallander is a LW!!

    Good luck!!

Last time leafs traded a really fast player that was a bit of an a*s, to the Pens, he ended up eating hot dogs out of the Stanley cup!!

He’s a typical leafs fan who praises Kappanen while he plays for Toronto and once he gets traded he sucks lol

Thanks! Hope you like watching a guy skate the puck really fast into the corner a lot!

Ohhhh and by the way Hallander plays C too!

Most LW bud.. I think we would know, we drafted him, he’ll be a Lw.

Here read your own Leafs articles. He’s mostly plays LW.

Plays nothing like Kappy. He would be more of a Hornqvist type player.

i know what he plays most bud, but he plays C too. I also never said he'd be a C for sure, I said that was his ceiling. A guy who is currently as good as Kapanen but at C. Note I did not say that was his playing style either.

    Amirov’s stats

    https://www.eliteprospects.com/player/518585/rodion-amirov

    Connor Zary’s stats

    https://www.eliteprospects.com/player/351805/connor-zary

And Like I said, I was happier and liked the trade even more when I saw that it was Amirov at 15. And would have been mad if that Goalie, Rossi, Seth Jarvis, or Sanderson fell to 15. Again, like I said, I would have wanted the Pens to take C.Zary, or K.Guhle(who was drafted 16th). Or even H.Lapierre, and go with the upside. He fell b/c of concussion problems, he was a top 10 pick without concussion problems last year. Lindross had the same thing. I still would have wanted the Pens and would have been happier if the Pens took Lapierre. I would have been pissed if they took Amirov!!

    Lapierre stats

Look at Amirov picture too. He looks like a baby.

I agree. Everyone’s posts are gonna age badly about Kapanen. I’m not as high on Matheson. But I’m trying to be positive and think if he can just have a good year this year and turn it around. Maybe he goes to Seattle. Personally I would have rathered Riikola or PO Jospeh. But I’m sure that was the best offer JR had for Horqvist. I can’t imagine people were knocking his door down for a 33 year old getting 5.3M / year. So we’ll see!! But yes, I think Kapanen gonna change completely in Pgh. Most players do coming into the locker room with Sid and Geno. And not a locker room full of kids.

And I don’t think people know or even care to know, 2 other teams were offering 1st for Kappy. One was NJD, I remember that. It was the 18th or 19th pick. They had 2 or 3 picks in the 1st round. And I forget the other team. But that info is out there. And the Pens had to add Hallander(who isn’t apart of our future anyways and definitely isn’t apart of our now). And Dubas was either gonna draft Sean Druzi or Hallander. And choose Druzi. But Hallander was just as high on his board too. So Dubas likes him and took the higher pick with the prospect they liked and knew. All that info is out out there.

i love how two of you just utterly ignored what i actually wrote and then went along like i said kap was trash or something. A guy can be a good player and still not be remotly worth what he was traded for.
I'd also bet that Kapanen is off Sid's line by the 30 game mark and playing with Geno unless he re-invents his game and becomes a totally different player than he is. He's a rush scorer whose feet move faster than his hands and his brain.

what does that have to do with anything i said? I literally said "his ceiling is" preceding the total lack of context quoted. I know how Dubas had him ranked and was previously interested in him.

you said there were 2 other teams involved in the kapanen hype. One was NJD who was offering the 18th or 19th pick (the devils had the 18th and 20th, so let's just say 18th) and the Pens, who had the 15th over all pick added Hallander.
so, according to you the offer was a pick 3 spots later and no prospect. If that is what we are going off, the Devils clearly didnt value Kapanen near as much as the Pens did. Now, that leaves us with a mystery 3rd team with no values so we can pretend they did if it helps your argument and the Pens as 2 teams who valued Kapanen that high.

He's overrated as hell. If that's the asking price for him, he'll retire as a Jet. You're better off signing Carl Soderberg for free

Because he is slow, has no hands, and cant play top 6 minutes on a real contender

I think he can still play in the top 6, it’s just the coach wasn’t willing to put him there. Hornqvist played on a line w/ Jake & Sid in the 2016/17 & 2017/18 playoffs as well as the first half of the 2018/19 season, they always outchanced the opposition. For some reason the coach prefers to play Sheary & Simon who are third liners at best.
