Why would he sign in Detroit to chase a cup 😂

other than the fact he said he’s not leaving the Caps

Yeah perhaps in 2027 if Ovechkin still wants to play in the NHL.

So sorry but I forgot how great the Oilers have been with probably the best player in the league.

Oh wait they have not won a thing. All those 1st overall picks and you guys still have not won a cup. Wow.

Detroit is bad, no arguement from me, but to make such an insane comment shows me why I love Canada, but a hate a lot of their hockey fans

Unlike Edmonton, Detroit’s rebuild will lead the team back to a cup win. I suspect that it will take much less time than it has in Edmonton.

That’s funny coming from an Oiler fan. It only took your team how many first overall picks to be relevant again.

Edmonton's last Cup was in 1990 and Detroit has won 4 Cups since that. They also have more than double the Cups that Edmonton has. With arguably the 2 best players in the league and they still couldn't make it out of the playin round. 4 1st overall picks in 6 years and the reason the NHL has a draft lottery. Detroit hasn't had a top 3 pick since the last time Edmonton won the Cup. (1990)

Even at their lowest point the Oilers never had a season like Detroit just had

You are right, but leading up to the bad seasons the Wings were one of the teams challenging for a cup for many years. And they won several cups in the time period, while the Oilers were an also ran which maybe made the playoffs and continued to be a middle of the pack, if lucky, team that has gone no where for the last 25 years.

Wings are the a team that was built to contend, showed over a long time that a team could keep the run together and after a long period that span of playoffs appearances, winning cups and contending finally caught up to them. When the Oilers can show that kind of streak, win multiple cups and show they are cup contenders for several years then maybe you have a case, but until you are nothing but a troll.

Why you so salty? One season doesn’t mean crap, if we do this for a decade plus then come back and talk (probably still won’t have the draft picks you guys did).

You realize the Oilers are on pace with the Wings for cups per season of existence? Even given the fact the Wings had a 53 year head start and were an O6 team where they basically had a 1/6 chance of winning a cup every season. (Given how competitive and proud that era of players were)

And from 1990 who has won more cups?

Who has had multiple #1 overall picks and have wasted them, who has been in the playoffs more since 1990?

Yes the Wings have a longer history but, moving forward from 1990 has had the better records?

To your point about 1 in 6 chance of cups those 6 teams were stacked with the best talent in North America, and there was no draft, but teams scouted and signed talent.

Different time. But from 1990 who has the more storied history?

I guess I just do not know why you need to put down an organization. To me it makes you look petty and small. Yes were they bad this year, no doubt. But to make such an assinine statement like they will be regulated to the AHL was just Bush league and shows that you are nothing but a bitter and small minded person who is more interested in putting down other teams to make your own team look good.

Have a wonderful weekend.

This thread was in response to a Detroit fan saying they wouldn’t do Bertuzi + 1st for McDavid when they could just sign Ovie the next year.

Also why are the parameters for 1990? Why not 1980? You skipped over the part where the Oilers had the best NHL team ever assembled.
