Despite the adds to TJ, I really don’t think SJ is in any position to be taking on that salary/contract unless they are planning to unload all assets for picks over the next 12-18 months. That team is such a mess right now, it’s actually what they should do. Light the dynamite and start fresh. Retain and trade and then draft multiple top picks for 2-3 seasons.. quickly hit that reset button because there’s no “retooling” that puts them into contention.

Yeah there's no freaking way Julien BriseBois is giving up 2 1st round picks to move Tyler Johnson, You're probably looking at a 2021 1st round pick plus a 2022 3rd round pick and either Cal Foote or Boris Katchouk.

I mean, I would consider it at 2 1st rounds. But 1 1st round isn't even bringing me to the table on that awful contract.

What are the odds Seattle picks him in the expansion draft? Him being a "local" guy and all...

TB is in a bind on expansion draft. They are going to lose a defenseman, Probably McD.
They won't protect him. They will protect Headman, Serg, Cernak, and probably Foote. Then Stam, Kuch, Point, Cirelli.
I don't think they care about what's left. So my guess is McD is gone. Otherwise Seattle takes Foote. The only way that doesn't happen is if TB doesn't play Foote, but I don't think they really have a choice in that they are so thin on RD.

Oh, I'm not expecting Johnson to be on TBL's roster next year. I guess it depends where he is and what else is available, but I wouldn't be overly surprised if Kraken pick him, especially if he has a bit of a bounce-back season.

why look at that TB roster, and ask yourself who would you pick. I mean no matter how you flip it. You are looking at one of 3 guys as being the best pick there. McD, Foote(who will start for TB this year), and then if you can have any forward because they protect 4 D, which they would have to, You can easily take Killorn over TJ.
So I think there is 0 chance of that. TB is most likely losing a defense man. Headman, McD, Cernak, Sergy, Foote. You can't protect all 5. 4 at most because they have to cover 4 forwards in Stam, Point, Kuch, and Cirelli.
0 chance Seattle takes him without TB paying them to. And that's going to cost.

I think he gets a first and a prospect instead, and I still just dont think its a good idea for us. Two super late firsts will not make up for 5 years of him on the book if we cant get seattle to take him

I think Anaheim accepts the first and Cal Foote.

Just not sure what the point of taking on an extra 5M for a bad contract is for those firsts. If we do this, we’ll easily be screwing up our future for the next 4 years. If we want to salvage that future and trade out one of those bad contracts (whether it va Johnson or not) we’ll probably have to use those 1sts to dump some said contract. I just personally don’t think that it’s worth it at all.

The person I responded to is a Penguins fan. Tyler Johnson would be worse than Crosby, Malkin, and Guetzel. After that he would be the next best forward
