Kapanen and Johnsson are not what I would call smart hockey players. Both on and off the ice. I got the distinct impression that they both felt that they were on the same level as 88, 16, 34, and 91 and they simply were not.

Both trades were the right moves. Pandemic and flat cap or not.

They made too much money for what they provided. They have been replaced accordingly.

I wish them well in the wars to come but, I have no problem with them not being on this team anymore.

There does seem to be a trend among high draft picks under Dubas (or prospects acquired - like Hallander) - high hockey IQ seems to be one of their top 2 or 3 strengths.

Right now you see you shouldn’t have signed Tavares, but when you signed him they thought he was very good (which he is), and there was no way a player like Pietrangelo would fall to free agency. It’s hard to talk about, because of the reasons I said. At the time it was good, but now you guys are getting jealous, and thinking it wasn’t, because you wanted Pietrangelo.

no the day tavres signed I said to myself this is going to be the worst contract

literally the equivalent of lining up 3 mustangs next to the one you got 2 years ago, pointing the old one and saying "definitely the worst one"

none of this tavares stuff is gonna end until he has a couple hat tricks and a clutch playoff performance (which I'm sure he will)

so, we just have to wait

if we ever win a round, it will prob be because of a heart and soul player like JT

Well worth the investment IMO. Great observation!

    That's crap.

It is no where near "the worst contract".

Tavares is and has been a PPG player. Solid defensively. Plays in all situations. Just turned 30. Slot him in literally anywhere and he will be effective.

If the salary cap kept rising, (as it should have when the deal was struck), this would not even be a talking point.

Glad he signed. Happy to have him. came without the loss of a single asset via trade. Worth every penny IMO.
