Description
Okay, it’s the “dogs days of summer” (yes I know it’s almost winter. I’m talking from a regular offseason standpoint lol), the offseason is almost over and we’re wanting some action!!!

I’m bored, so I tried pulling something interesting together.

What are your thoughts?
Are the values fair/close?

Here’s my take on the deals...

Anaheim loses a big piece of their back end in Lindholm, and a top 6 winger in Rakell, as well as a very good prospect in Steel. In return, they get W.Nylander who replaces Rakell, his brother Alex, a top 6 projected F, and a high end D prospect in Liljegren who could probably step into the club. Short term, they're not as deep on the back end, but the offence, and future pieces make the deal happen.

Chicago doesn’t do a whole lot other than play middle man. They lose a young promising player in A.Nylander but add a former 2 time 30 goal scorer in Rakell, who rounds out their top 6, making it look quite nice imo. Not sure they want to lose A.Nylander but Rakell is by no means a slouch or downgrade at the position. On the cheap for 2 more seasons (not as cheap as Nylander obviously) and also keeps the team competitive.

Toronto loses a huge piece in Nylander, but stacks their back end with the Lindholm addition. Since they are deep on D, and have Sandin on the way, they can afford to move Liljegren. Not that I think they’d want to. In return, Steel comes in and plays a smaller role right away, but I feel that he would look really good with Robertson in the future.

Thanks for reading, hope y’all enjoyed it. I think I covered it all.

Let me know what you think, good or bad. Always open to constructive criticism.

At this point, the Leafs left side is stocked for the next few years with Rielly, Muzzin. Dermott, Sandin and at least this year Lehtonen will all be competing for that 3rd spot. They might as well wait and make a play for Lindholm in free agency a few years down the line.

Defense was once a thing for the Leafs but with a 4 year Brodie deal, its not a problem remaining for this offseason.

Fair point. I believe he can play both sides though.
Rielly Lindholm
Muzzin Brodie

Then Lehtonen, Holl, Bogosian, Sandin, Dermott flip flop all over lol

So Chicago looses Alex Nylander and gains Rickard Rakell?

Thats not a 3-way trade, thats a convoluted scam on Anaheim

I must be missing something here, because I think this is pretty well-envisioned by the OP. I'm not at all sure that this is such a bad deal for Anaheim.

We give up:

a #1 LD
a top-6 forward playing LW for us
a former first-round pick we're currently penciling in as our future #2 C

We're getting:

a #1 RW (who is both the best player on the ice in the deal and the best contract value in it)
a young right-handed forward we can pencil in as our future #2 RW
a young former first-round pick we can pencil in as our future #2 RD

Note that Liljegren, unlike the three players we're giving up, is exempt from the expansion draft

We are dealing from positions of strength (LW and LD) to address positions of weakness (RW and RD)

We're getting three players under team control for at least 5 years each in return for one such (both Rakell and Lindholm are UFAs in two years, as is Josh Manson)

We're getting a little of the better of it on cap and payroll, too

I think my fellow Anaheim adherents (@Salzy @HadesOfSoCal) should give this one some more thought. It seems to me that the only real downsides are having to replace Steel (if Lundestrom and Groulx aren't sufficient) and the drop-off from Lindholm to Djoos, Larsson, Guhle and others for the next 2 years.

Wait... So unless I'm reading this wrong, this trade suggests Alex Nylander = Rickard Rakell?
