1. No from Calgary
2. With what cap space could Calgary take on Marner?

Thackuck actually has a good contract while Marner is overpaid no matter how much he produces.

Just assuming that when Giordano's contract expires they have the flexibility.

We can take on the contract already its just we probably don't want to. That contract is bad to any contending team.

@Ledge_And_Dairy
Very random but just wondering.
How much do the Flames need to pay for Travis Konecny?

I'm guessing around the value of getting Nylander?

Value wise this deal is absolutely fine. But tkachuk is the heart and soul of that team, so they decline.

I assume Konecny is about as available as Lindholm. He would cost a pretty big overpayment

Because there is a salary cap in the NHL.

Calgary isn’t trading their future captain. He’s literally the heart and soul of the Calgary flames

So Toronto has to trade good players because there is a salary cap? Does this mean all teams have to trade their good players? Who would they trade them to?

It’s not like they’re trading a good player for nothing. They’re trading a good overpaid player for a player you could argue is better than marner, who has a good contract, and thus, more value.

Tkachuk is the toughest guy on the flames and is also a scorer they won’t trade him. They’ll lose their best fighter...

His contract expires in two years as well, so thatll determine if the guy wants to take a pay cut and win championships, rather than clean out the entire franchises spending money and be greedy. Its becoming a trend for younger players. Im looking at Matthews and Marner as examples of this

Good contract? No, not a good contract. Good cap hit for this year and next. Then they will either need to overpay to keep him or try to negotiate in ufa after he signs his QO.

I was about as upset with this contract as the marner deal. It would have been a good time to lock him up for 5-8 years. Not sure what his ask was though.

When he’s RFA there will still be massive uncertainty about the financial situation of the league. It will be a good time for teams to negotiate.

Sounds like the worst case scenario is the leafs would get a good deal for two years, and then get a deal similar to marner’s. Win.

And a bad time for tkachuk... so he signs his 9m QO and they can try and negotiate his ufa rights with him.

Sure. That’s kind of the risk with any player who takes a bridge. It’s pretty rare that it happens that way though. For every mark stone there’s a ton of guys that take the security of a long term deal after their bridge.

The QO is the outlier here. The 9m base salary in the 3rd year. You know that was a focus from his camp. That is where his future plans lie. You Ofer me X amount of dollars or I take my 9m and walk.

This is something that happens very frequently in the NHL. Quite commonplace.
