Penguins Rangers Rumours Mid Season Trade

Team Explanation
Notes:

-this idea would only become reality if some mix of matheson/POJ/riikola/Lee make Pettersson expendable.
-I think the Pettersson contact (while not bad) is kind of a bit much especially with the financial chaos covid has brought. I think his taking the one year previous at under 800K made this deal's AAV higher as GMJR and the pens "repaid" him for $$ lost.
-the pens have a whole lot of $$$ and bodies on LHD right now, but I think they will probably start the season like this and see how things pan out...

I feel NYR would add a mid pick or a depth player as Pettersson is an established top-4 D while VK has yet to prove anything.

If Pettersson is "expendable" then why do the Rangers need or want him, especially at the cost of their 2nd best prospect outside the NHL? Penguins would need to add a 1st+take back a cap dump to make the Rangers even consider this.

fair point. maybe expendable isn't the best word to use. I just mean we have 3 LHD making over 4M and 2 cheaper options that can play probably this year on the left side... there's a log jam and from a distance it looks like NYR has a hole there.

How is an established top 4 D making just over 4 mil a lot?

The Rangers also have K'Andre Miller & Tarmo Reunanen looking like they could push for spots this season, plus Libor Hajek, Brendan Smith (ew), and Jack Johnson (also ew). That's not including Ryan Lindgren, who's a lock. Longer term, Zac Jones is looking like he'll have a legit chance to be a decent NHLer in a few years.

The cap is also a (significant) obstacle. They can't just add 4m in cap without sending some major cap back.

1st they aren't trading MP. 2nd, Kravtsov isn't worth that even by other NYR fans opinions.

3rd Just because a player is deemed "expendable " by some fan, doesn't mean they have no value. McDonagh in TB is "expendable" not because he's a horrible defenseman, but because they don't really have room for a 6 million per 3LD and Headman is the number 1 and Sergy in the number 2 in that scenario.
So for the love of god, slow your homerism role.

The Rangers have enough cap trouble as is, and Kravtsov would be many organizations' top prospect. The 1st+cap dump was hyperbole, b/c I've gotten tired of asking people to provide an actual vetted source suggesting he's available.

But the Rangers cannot afford to take on 4m in cap without sending a significant amount back. ****ing Kreider contract

which is why it's not going to be MP.
      It's going to be POJ.
If they were to do this, it would be a prospect swap.
Pure and simple. 1 team trading depth for another teams depth.
NY has depth at RW, the penguins have depth at LD.
POJ is looked at as a 2LD, Kravtsov a mid 6 winger. It's a fair swap.
Both teams get something they need at a cap hit they can handle.
At this point it's not where you were drafted. It's what are you doing with it.
If this was going to happen, that's what it would look like.

Left Defense is the last position we need right now so that trade would be horrible for us when Kravtsov will be a cheap forward. We’ve got Lindgren, Reunanen, Miller, Robertson, Jones and then potentially shifting DeAngelo there temporarily. We’re good, we just need to be patient while our guys develop. What we need is centers with high upside.

this all depends on how you view the prospect and the team.
If you are NY, your best chance of winning is right now.
If you don't win with guys on rookie deals, you are set to reach cap hell and have the window of help closed out.
NY has a lot of high end 1st round picks up there. If they get paid, that's it, things get harder.
So if you view the team as "win now, while you have money for help and young stars" you don't have time to wait.

dude you so bitter, if any of the two guys looks like a bust it's Kravtsov .....and that's coming from other ranger fans.

Cap hell from now on, like 90% of teams. We'll have to pay many good young ones, wisely. Window is not even open yet and you're talking about it closing lol

dude you got a 1st over all and a 2nd over all, on rookie deals. If your window is ever open.......it's now.
Because in 3 years, if they aren't total busts, you are going to look like TOR, paying them big money and no cap left to have help. Which means no depth, and that's what is needed to win.
So yeah, your window is now. Unless your picks are busts.

thing is we have hopefully 3 of them so...with 2 making about 1 mil so we just have too many bodies...
don't get me wrong I love Pettersson I just think he has the most value...

yeah that's more likely if they are set on having the other 3 LHD (Dumo, Petey, Matheson) start. it's just alot of $$ for a left side...that's the only reason I'm even contemplating it...

since when is POJ a bust??? he has a tremendous last season after dealing with injuries. he's only like 20-21 now so he'll still probably gain some muscle and size.
he played all situations last year and his #1 fan in mike vellucci is now promoted to pens AS coach...

He’s a top 4 D. He’s expendable like Trouba would be for you. We have younger prospects coming up that can hopefully fill his spot. Probably wont be as good though. It’s most likely gonna be a drop off. Does it make Trouba bad if he’s expendable?? And he’s not signed for 8M like Trouba. He’s a reasonable 4.025M, long term. At 24 years old.

      Kravtsov is severely over rated.

True value would be closer to Kravtsov for Björkqvist plus something like a 5th or 6th.

Kravtsov was drafted high, but stunted. He also doesn't want to leave Russia so acquiring him is a waste of assets.

      Kravtsov is severely over rated.

True value would be closer to Kravtsov for Björkqvist plus something like a 5th or 6th.

Kravtsov was drafted high, but stunted. He also doesn't want to leave Russia so acquiring him is a waste of assets.

Did he tell you he won't leave russia?

yeah that's more likely if they are set on having the other 3 LHD (Dumo, Petey, Matheson) start. it's just alot of $$ for a left side...that's the only reason I'm even contemplating it...

it is, which is why Matheson has to play well. So they can ship him out. Which win or lose makes the 3RD spot, the most important on the team at this point. Because he can't sink. It's not an option.
