Drastic Measures

Created by: Grievous
Team: 2020-21 Tampa Bay Lightning
Initial Creation Date: Nov. 26, 2020
Published: Nov. 28, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
A few notes:

Vasilevkiy is the only high value contract with no trade or movement restrictions and Ottawa probably is the only team with the Cap Space and prospect depth to make such a move.

This sets up TB for success for another decade by significantly boosting their prospect depth.

Kassian is actually a fast skater and best buds with Maroon

Ottawa declines, Pierre Dorion isn't eating $3 million per for the next 4 years of Matt Murray's contract while taking on Andrei Vasilevskiys full $9.5 million for the next 8 years. And Edmonton doesn't have the cap space to take on Cernak, Killorn and Palat.

This is quite ridiculous. BriseBois said that Kucherov, Hedman, Point, and Vasilevskiy are untouchable.

Let's see how it plays out, the Vasilevkiy contract is moveable and Huge...and of course the top 3 won't be traded.

Something has to give...

Oilers decline very quickly. That might be one of the worst and least thought out ideas I’ve ever seen. 4 prospects couple picks plus a top four rd and the only really gritty forward plus retaining....... I don’t even know where to begin debunking this idea it’s horrible on just about every possible way

LOL, unthought out, yup okay. If an overpaid and over-valued Kassian and a handful of middling prospects are your hill to die on, then you are clearly uninformed about this franchise. Kassian's peak was the entire calendar year of 2019. He is not what you think he is. He is now an old, overpaid 3rd line RW.

Benson has the highest ceiling, but his foot speed might have him max out as a 2nd or 3rd line LW if he even makes it as a full-time NHLer. I think he is and will be blocked in Edm, so he won't be with the org much longer. I expect he will be scooped up by Seattle next season.

McLeod is at best a 3C, but more likely a 4C. He is easily moveable with limited franchise impact.

Sammy might top out as a 4 or 5 D, but again he is blocked by Nurse, Jones and Broberg.

Kemp might be a 6 or 7 NHL Dman in 2 years. Kesselring will be eating his lunch in 3 years.

You are a fan of mediocrity, clearly.

Sure if mediocrity avoids this train wreck idea.

Vasilevskiy is great and all but I'd rather pay Murray 6mil and hope for a bounce back than effectively pay Vasi McDavid money plus lose a top 4 RHD prospect that projects as the long term defensive defenseman partner for Chabot, a top 6 C prospect coming off a stellar AHL rookie season, two 2nds, a guy just drafted in the 1st round, and a solid 20 goal 2-way middle 6 RW. I would love a young, all-star goalie guaranteed, but this hurts our rebuild more than it helps it. Maybe something like Murray+L. Brown+Thomson+Tierney in a year? Idk, probably isn't a trade there even if Vasi wasn't untouchable

I keep deleting my responses. I can't find a polite way to express how bad this trade offer is with Ottawa. You must not think much of Murray, so how are you going to make the playoffs with a goalie you think so little of?

Leafs don't have the cap...or maybe even the desire for Larsson. Palat isn't waiving his NTC for Edmonton. Doubt if KIllorn has Edmonton on his trade list.
Ottawa isn't taking on all that cap and retention.

I think your first and foremost issue is that you don't see 12 piece deals. You need to trim that first one up a bit imo, try and get down to 6. Also im not saying vasi isn't a good goalie but he (any goalie) is not worth 12.5mil, especially right now, so there's not going to be retention there. On top of that, no team is paying you for him, tampa is against the wall they're not getting value in any deal they make. Maybe get rid of all your deals and do vasi+killorm to ottawa for murray + brown.
