So you were at a bar and randomly heard some dude suggest that? Is that what qualifies as a rumor these days?

Assuming this is the case and there is weight to it I will still say what I think kills this deal.

Chicago sent out a letter apologizing to it's fans about selling away their dynasty players. They are a few years away from competing and getting a main piece being a big contract guy doesn't really move their needle. Any GM for a team in that spot needs some fan support more than a guy like Mittlestadt who could make him look like a wiener. Kane also has a cap hit that's pretty impossible to move these days. If there is a deal to be made it would be Kane at the deadline for Quinn, another top prospect (no pick because Buf would be likely to make it a bad first anyway) and bad salary back. Chi would want basically no value in this deal to come from the guy with the contract. They want youth. Cheap youth.

Deadline proposal that I will just leave here.

Quinn
Cozens or Olofsson (if Oloffson has a down year from his stud rookie campaign it would be him, Cozens if Olofsson is too good)
and Okposo

for Kane 3 mil retained.

Which writer? Also, this seems like it’s probably speculation on the part of the author rather than insider information.

Dude. Why would the Sabres even look for 2 seconds without laughing and blocking the number?

Yeah, that’s just some Sabres writer daydreaming of ridiculous trades.

Depends on your definition of wins. Kane is better now, but he’s also 32 and carries a $10.5M cap hit over the next 3 years. The Sabres will owe big money to Rasmus Dahlin and Taylor Hall, if they plan on keeping him around. The organization also lacks young talent, so trading Quinn and Mittelstadt (even though he hasn’t done anything yet and may not) really hurts their depth. You need good young talent to be successful. This trade hurts both teams in the end. Okposo and a 1 would need to head to Chicago and then maybe a discussion could be had, but I don’t see how Reinhart fits at all.
