I’d rather have McCann than Zacha, and Petterson is worth way more than Zetterlund. Granlaund would be a good signing, but chara to 3 million would be the biggest waste in the world.

I think Dallas got incredibly lucky that entire postseason run. I wouldn’t peg them as true contenders. Had this not been the COVID playoffs I don’t see a world where they make the finals.

Colorado also didn’t have both their starter AND backup goalie. Pretty rare that both goalies go down. Had the injury bug not hit them so hard; I think we would’ve saw them in the finals

I’m saying the isles weren’t a legit contender because look at their roster. This is a team that may not have made the playoffs had the covid pause never happened. And now that they lost their 2nd best defender in Toews they aren’t any better. They got incredibly lucky in 2020 with covid and getting hot at the right time, but this is not a team good enough to win 16 games in a normal playoffs

1 toews was number 3. 2 look at how they did with pelech in the lineup, thats a contender if i ever saw one. The only reason they might not have made the playoffs if not for covid is because pelech wouldve been injured.
They also will be better because they have jg wahlstroms ready dobsons going to be a lot better and lee is going to have more than 2 pp goals in the regular season. He was shooting 50% of what he usually shot.

Toews>Pelech based on advance stats and the eye test. Pageau I find overrated, and definitely overpaid. Walstrom and dobson should be good, but who knows with young players, they may not make an impact. I still think isles will be a playoff team, but the loss of toews is gonna hurt more than you think

Boychuk was worth -0.9 WAR last year.

Toews : 2.2
Dobson : 1.7
Greene : 0.7

They also have Sebastian Aho who will be a good player.

Pelech is our best dman defensively and thats really important in the trotz system. I think dobson and leddy this year will be better than toews and leddy last year.

The D core as a whole will probably end up providing similar value (or maybe slightly better) than last year. I don’t think fans realize how bad boychuk was last season - he singlehandedly cost the isles games. He was that bad - it’s addition by subtraction not having him in the lineup
