the 2021 draft has a lot - like 15 - prospects worthy of going between 3 and 10, but none that are solid lottery picks. the 4 clear cut choices are guenther, raty, clarke, and power, but others like hughes, lambos, and even sillinger could push up there. i'm assuming the devils get another low top 10 pick (let's say around 8/9 for argument's sake). I would assume the devils pick up the best player available, which I'm going to go out on a limb and say that it's either gonna be luke hughes or cole sillinger. for the purpose of the exercise, let's settle on cole sillinger, the 17 year old center/LW who was 4th in WHL scoring last season with an injury keeping him out for a 1/4 of the season. not bad. he's compared to taylor hall with his overall game, but he's got a lethal shot.

or even better if they pick up luke hughes and the devils can rename themselves the new jersey hughes. he's said to be the best skater of the family, a 6'2 defender who can play on either side. imagine hughes on the top line and a hughes - hughes 1st pairing tearing up the league for the devils in 5 years. shld be fun. he's got a defense-first mentality but also a great passing ability. he's a special talent. scouts have his comparable as roman josi with his skating and passing, combined with the shutdown elements of josh manson or the like. he's got a brilliant hockey iq, but his overall game is his strength - he doesn't excel at any specific part of the game (aside from skating) like jack and quinn do, but he's a more all around player. him or sillinger would both be great pick ups.
now writing this i'd prefer hughes. let's go with hughes.

yes i did sign 3 of the 4 biggest fishes on the open market (not Ovechkin) - also i assumed malkin resigns with the pens. ovi is a less of a sure thing.
