5 Clusters of 1Cs

Description
Grouped some tiers/clusters of how I view 1Cs around the league (includes 1Bs) If I missed a guy, probably forgot or I just didn't feel they belonged. Please don't get into that 'elite' debate- not the purpose of me doing this.
- Pretty easy to separate McDavid and Mackinnon so there's tier 1
- Next I grouped the top Centre who I feel are all in the same grouping- superstars, hart trophy candidates but just not quite at McDavids and Mackinnon level. Stammer, Tavares, Bergeron, Toews, Kopitar probably could be seen there in the past, but I don't view them up there anymore. I could see Barzal, Petterson and Point join that group in the next year or two but I'm pretty set with it.
- I had a hard time separating the 3rd tier so I just decided to group the young elite guys together who are viewed as their team's franchise centre and then just a consensus group of elite #1 centres. Zibanejad was tough to separate here, he did pop 41g in 57 games but I don't just see him in that Franchise centre group yet since it he missed a decent amount of games and this was his first full breakout year. I also left Hischier out of it, he's young and hasn't proved as much as the other guys in that group- he went to tier 5 "very good". Larkin was a tough call since DRW suck, think he'd be viewed there with a contender.
- Tier 4 is just well known elite centres around the league- pretty standard stuff.
- Tier 5 are all very good centres- not a bonafide 1C but good enough to lead a first line. Didn't know where to put Getzlaf so threw him there.

Larkin isn't elite. If you have Scheifele in the young elite, you can put Couturier in, they're both 27.

Crosby yes, the rest no.

I think you could put R.Johansson and N.Backstrom in the “recognized elite centers” or atleast “very good centers” category. And I don’t think Zibs is the same as that group of Centers.

If you're gonna put Eichel in the 2nd tier, Point and Pettersson should be there too

Nothing makes me want to tell you you did a bad job. Some minor changes I'd make but overall very good. The most notable is that Larkin is 2 teirs too high.

Idk why people are so high on Petey, yeah he's great but he's in the right spot. He doesn't have a point per game season yet or even a 35 goal pace. Give him some time before you call him a top 10 player, he'll be there eventually most likely but he's honestly probably the worst in that tier at this time (aside from PLD and Larkin).

Larkin should not be in that tier, he's not even as good as half the people in the tier below him. Same for PLD. I'd bump them down a tier (probably two for Larkin).

I'd bump Crosby up to tier 1, he's still the most dominant player on the ice at both ends whenever he's healthy.

Cool ranking.

I'd personally put Crosby in the first tier, Point in the second tier. I'd also move Scheifele and maybe Barkov into the "recognized elite tier", Scheifele is the same age as Zibanejad and Couturier.

I personally go:

Tier 1
McDavid
Crosby
MacKinnon
Matthews
Draisaitl

Tier 2
Eichel
Barkov
Point
E.Pettersson
Malkin
Towes
Barzal
Aho

Tier3
Kopitar
R.O’Reilly
P.Bergeron
Stamkos(if you are counting him as a C still)
Couturier
M.Scheifele
P.L.Dubois
Backstrom
J.Tavaras
Seguin
J.Pavelski
Kuznetsov

Tier 4
L.Couture
Zibs
S.Monahan
D.Krejci
D.Larkin
T.Hertl
RN Hopkins
R.Johnansen
R.Getzlaf

Tier 5
N.Hischier
W.Karlsson
E.Staal
B.Horvat
A.Cirelli
V.Trochek
P.Danault
N.Suzuki
K.Hayes
A.Henrique
M.Duchene

And I’m probably forgetting one or two but that would be my opinion. Bobby Thomas is In that tier 5 if you are counting him as a Center.

Johansson isn’t good? He’s a top line center, a 60-70 point a season player. Even 2015, splitting the year b/ween CLS and Nashville he still had 60 points total.

He’s been a 60-70 point scorer every full season he’s played except 1, with 54 points. He’s only 28 years old. I said EVEN 2015 when he split the year b/ween 2 teams. That’s the only year that looks bad in his stat line but when u look close, it’s 1 year, b/ween 2 teams. Really good at Face-offs. Big guy. Good 1st line Center.

Maybe it's close, I just think McDavid and Mackinnon separate themselves from Crosby, Matthews, Draisaitl. so I gave them their own tier

Backstrom is in there. Johansen has played himself out of the 1C spot last couple years, so I just used Duchene. Could be back though! Yeah agreed about Zbad, maybe some bias as an Ottawa fan haha

I think Eichel has the edge just from being a couple years older. No doubt, one more season they'll be there

Agreed about Larkin- I probably overvauled him. I'm a big PLD fan, he's a beast and he runs that CBJ offense
