Chychrun is about 10x better than Subban. IMO he is a top 15 LHD in the league but that's not a popular opinion

I think Chychrun is to AZ what Theodore was to VGK before everyone realized how good Theodore is. He’s a piece you’d build around, and let’s not forget that AZ ate Datsyuk’s deal to move up a couple spots and take Chychrun. Luckily Detroit got Hronek out of it too because Cholowski has been a disappointment so far

I have to disagree. Chychrun is not better than Subban. I really don't see it but that is my personal opinion. Also, I wanted to get off his 4.5 mil because he's backing up Ekman-Larsson and for a 2nd line LD, its not worth the money. Also, that freed up money to sign Ristolainen and to re-sign Hayden Barrett who looks like a stud.

Theodore is way better than Chrychrun. Theodore being better than Chrychrun is way worse of a comparison than Chrychrun is better than Subban.

I was saying it in jest, as if it were too good to be true. This is a pretty bad move for the yotes. Subban is 9 years older, carries a 9 million cap hit and was one of the worst players in the league last year. Chychrun is not the worst defensemen in the league and has 5 years left at very reasonable money ($4.6m.) On top of that you are giving the devils a 1st. even if you were trying to clear cap for 22-23, you could legitimately trade for any other defensemen in the league and be better off.
          NLidstrom and LucasVollmer09 liked this.

The contract values alone make Chychrun much better. Subban has fallen off. Chychrun is on the rise and had 12 goals on a team that can hardly put the puck in the net.
