Description
This is round three of a tournament style series involving the worst contract from each team. You pick the better of the two contracts, to eventually determine “the best worst contract.”
Round 1: https://www.capfriendly.com/armchair-gm/team/2116218
Round 2: https://www.capfriendly.com/armchair-gm/team/2118349

No, I don’t care if you think someone isn’t actually the worst contract on their team. Go back to the first one and comment if you really feel the need. It’s too late now.

Remember, you’re picking the better of the two contracts.

marner is getting basically 11M till he's 27, has effectively 2 90+ point seasons, was scoring at a 98 point pace under the new coach. the deal is heavily frontloaded ($8M for the last 3 years) and he only has a NMC in the final 2 years.

hayes is getting $7M till he's 34 and has yet to ever eclipse 50 points across a season (except once), and he has either a NMC or a M-NTC in every season till that deal expires. his deal is also kinda frontloaded but not nearly as much as marner's

hayes is a great player but marner's contract is not nearly as bad as hayes'. you should prob find a more close comparable, maybe like clayton keller or something - because he's signed through his prime

as for the rest:

nyquist
benn
stastny (bc of term)

wait yeah, my mistake, forgot he split the year between teams - I read it as 42 points for 18-19

idk, you can't compare a 23 year old to a 28 year old who are signed for the same term, every single person is gonna pick marner's as being better - it's not even a comparison

going back from the beginning, tavares' contract would have fit a lot better in this thing, bc he's an aging star getting paid big money till he's old

but ya, too late now, so whatever

It’s almost like this was directly addressed in the description. Sheesh.
